  1. how can they close
the only way to get anything will be to run to swarthore?
who are the people that are saying yes? real estate chevra?
have some rachmunus on us the simple people

  2. I beleive it should stay open and have it run under new management with at least basic customer service…

I don’t believe there is any other post office that is so mismanaged!

  3. As one who has had the pleasant experience of visiting this post office, it comes as no surprise that it is a money looser.
Unfortunately, the USPS still has not got it’s act together and continues to allow FedEx and UPS to devour it’s breakfast lunch and supper.
Woe to the individual who is condemned to use the USPS for a service that requires it (any gov. related business).
It’s a shame that the positive and pleasant attitudes the typical mail carrier has, do not always extend to the folks behind the counter.
Compare that with FedEx and UPS!
Try tracking USPS packages or printing a label at home and finding a mail truck to send it with. (again, compare to Fedex and UPS).
BTW, Jackson post office is MUCH better!

  4. I voted “no” eventhough it’s a louzy post office bec. there is no alternitive.
what’s the justice and responsibliy behind such an act.
It’s contitutional that the post office exists, doesthat mean to close 99% of them???????????????????

  5. the reason that the post office is not doing good is bec. it a gov’t rund bussiness like all gov’t things Bussiness have to be runned privately to be succusfull.

  6. whatever happens with the post office, i hope the building remains. its a gorgeous piece of architecture and one of the last remnants of what lakewood really used to be like. to turn it into a parking lot (like roeys diner across the street will be), will be an absolute tragedy.

  7. TO Lakewood Chachem, please learn to spell correctly and to express your self a little clearer. You make no sense, first of all nothing that is government owned or run is private. Hense the parkway or the turnpike, it is gov’t run by the state; to privatize it means it is no longer gov’t owened and run. If they close this office down, I would imagine they would open a smaller more convienent location with better parking. But goodness please learn that runned is not a word in the english dictionary!

  8. I think the Pst Office should be turned into a 6 story luxury residential complex. Similar to Concord..it would be exactly what we need for the downtown landscape.

  9. If it closes this location, I hope they open somewhere closer than the Industrial Park. Am I supposed to run down there every day to empty my PO box???

  10. How can they close a post office when so mny people walk to it? Was it a deal made without looking at the problems it would cause, or is this another get rid of it like St.Mary’s school? There are people who still care about the real LAKEWOOD. When will they want to change the name of the town?

  11. What will happen when you get that certified, registered letter and no one is home to accept it. Then u must go and pick it up in the Lakewood p o

  12. Ben, I spelled it incorrectly, it is supposed to be a C not an S. I am sorry. Thank you for catching that, but I do believe you know what it meas or atleast I would hope you do. If not please look it up in the english language dictionary.

  13. I believe they should turn the building into a museum on lakewood history of the old days when babe ruth and frank sinatra lived in play here … when downtown lakewood was filled with hotels not hair salons and schools good old days

  14. To anyone who uses the post office it’s taken for granted that the wait is tremendous. How in the world can someone say to close it town? Where will all the people who need USPS go?
Regarding bad customer service I personally have only had pleasant experiences.
What I would think is smart is to get an automated system (besides for people) like they have in Brick. I asked them why they don’t have one and they said they’ve been trying to get one for years, but the red tape takes forever!

  15. Although I do not use the downtown post office because I am somewhat nearer to Brick, I would certainly want a post office downtown if I lived in that area. I think that those who live there and walk to do their business are correct in expecting that there should be postal services near the center of a municipality the size of Lakewood. You can get postal services in an area as small as nearby Allenwood, so the absence of such services in Lakewood would make little sense. If this particular post office is failing for lack of management, then the solution should be a managerial overhaul rather than giving up. If the specific building is a problem, e.g. if it is regarded as too small, a relocation within the downtown area could be discussed. If the current business is too small to justify maintaining the location under whatever guidelines the postal service uses, it may be that many people are refraining from using the postal services because of the long waits that other forum members have described above. If that is the case, the business could increase with a managerial overhaul or relocation to a larger facility. At a minimum, satellite locations, such as you find in certain pharmacies, etc., should be established downtown. In my experience, they can handle most needs other than post office boxes and international mailings.

  16. to pj & wuts ma name- a wonderful idea! what better the celebrate this towns heritage than using the building a museum. bravo!
