It’s at 455 Manetta Avenue in Lakewood (just south of the Park and 7th area)

A couple of fire trucks (pumpers) probably could have emptied it out real quick. The pumps are capable of about 500 gallons a minute. Just need a screen over the intake as if they were drafting from a lake.

Thank you NJ Property specialist for lending us your pump. You are really a good resource for Lakewood Chaverim lending us your tools and knowledge when we need you.

Sincerely 47

The fire dept. refused to use their truck to pump out the five feet of ground water in the basement. This is why the Chaveirim and DPW had to be mobilized.

Ella G. Clarke School is one of Lakewood’s oldest schools still in use. It was originally named the Manetta Street School until, I believe, there was a fire in the school and Mrs. Clarke was the principal there at the time. There is a plaque in the school in her honor. The name Manetta also has history in Lakewood which is where the name Lake Manetta comes from. Manetta lost her life in the lake; she was the mother of Cara, Sallie, and Josephine (Lake Carasaljo).

Since my comment (#2) was not clear I felt it was important to provide information about Lkwd. My family has been in town since the 1940’s and feel its important, and interesting, to know the history of the town, or city, of where you live.

Get your history straight: # 5 school was on School Street until it burned to the ground one day in February some time in the early 1940s. Ella G. Clarke was the principal at the time of the fire. Due to her diligence and leadership NO CHILD was hurt or missing during the school day fire. Clarke School on Manetta Ave was built to replace the #5 school and named after Ella G. Clarke. The site of the original building is now a small park on School Street.

excuse me #15 I was very close to the facts with the exception of the exact location. My information was still more then almost any one on here considering they had no clue to even where the school was!!! Especially since the article doesn’t even have the full name of the school. And, like I said, my family has been in Lakewood since the 1940’s doesn’t mean I was. Unfortunately that information, to be exact, is no where available on the internet that’s why I put, “I believe” in there. So before you go jumping down someone’s throat, being that you were a teacher, take my information, that other’s had no clue about, in to consideration and carefully read before you belittle someone for trying. Glad you weren’t my teacher, or may be you were mine or a family member of mine!
