VIDEO: One pedestrian is in critical condition and 2 others moderately injured after being struck minutes from each other at the intersection of Cedarbridge Avenue and Arlington Avenue.
At about 7PM, two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle, and suffered back and leg injuries. They were transported to local Hospitals by Lakewood EMS.
As police were clearing the scene, at about 7:25 PM, police heard a loud bang and found a third pedestrian struck. The pedestrian went through the windshield of the vehicle, and then landed on the road, unresponsive.
Multiple BLS and ALS units of Lakewood EMS and Lakewood First Aid responded to the scene. The victim was transported by EMS Paramedics to Jersey Shore Medical Center, with CPR in progress.
A homeless woman was killed at the same intersection last year.
Cedarbridge Avenue between South Clover and MLK is closed for the investigation. TLS-46/TLS-60/TLS-CCP.
PHOTOS of scene.
I drive down cederbridge in the early. Mornings and tent city people just prance accross the street and I have had close calls
The council has ignored this problem long enough… close it down….sell the land for development…
I live on cedarbridge in Washington square…..and there are crashes every other day we need another light
Its nice to see the EMS Supervisor still working late at night helping his crews.
The first two accidents were residents of tent city, the third was a volunteer who was making sure the first two were alright. Greg is a great man who does a lot for many people.
Put lights all over Lakewood then, what we need is more responsible drivers and stop rushing for nothing
who or what hit them.
Yes what we need is how to drive safely courses provided by the police 4 times a year. In fact if you live in lakewood you should be required to attend one of these courses once a year. Where I work people constantly call while they’re driving. Tsk tsk
not to mention the many chickens who cross the road from the homeless forest…I almost kill them all the time.
Prayers are with all especially the Volunteer who is now in critical condition.
For you’ll complain of the chicken I drive there every morning going to work and I never see any of them on the road only on the side of the road. And for the people complaining about Tent city , try to rent In Lakewood people don’t rent!!! I am Jewish and leave in tent city.
God bless you Greg, pull through this. Our prayer’s are with you.
#5 I agree people are speeding all the time, and the homeless don’t look when they cross doesn’t help the matter
No mention of the fire only two hours later?
lakewood is an AWFUL place to drive through!! people always rushing, talking on cell phones, not paying attention- i live here and i dread driving through town-
I don’t care, homeless or not. Pedestrians have the right of way. Slow down and be more careful.
Dnt worry the twnshp wont put a light there cuz they r busy putting 1 on pine and avenue of america really needed
I too have close calls with the homeless from tent city. At night it’s dark and they just prance in the roadway.
Lakewwod needs to shut down tent city. It looks like the number of tents have doubled during the year. With that double the problems. Pretty soon Lakewood will have to have an ordinance for fire sprinklers in the tents.
#17, that light on pine and avenue is because they are building another school on pine street with housing and the sidewalks are a bigger thing to happen in that area. Lights are not done for no reason, the township will claim it is for Pine river. Think not
#15, Dawn you are 100% correct. Majority of the people are always talking on the cell phone, in a rush to get no where and couldn’t care if they hit another car or an individual.
right of way so just walk right into traffic and then complain that Lakewood is had bad drivers
Watch your speed on Cedarbridge Ave and get off your cell phones!! Pay attention to what is going on in that area..it is getting worse..more houses and more traffic..when does it end..Watch out for pedestrians.
to #11 if you leave in tent city how does your computer work? and how can you afford it?
Tent city is not the problem (although it’s a separate issue/problem). The problem is we wait for someone to be dead or maimed to decide it’s ‘time to put in another light’. Why does it need to come with that? Developers should be taxed to put up a development that strains the roadways and that money can go towards putting up a light BEFORE the accidents and close-calls start happening. AND Lakewood drivers – we all need to be extra careful when we drive in this busy, densely populated town with strained and overburdened roadways.
Face it- the reality is, we are no longer a small town. The driving is no different then any other busier city (unfortunately).Compare apples to apples. Drive in any busier city and compare it to Lakewood -no difference. You can’t compare Lakewood driving to any of the surrounding towns, we have way more cars on the road here with more chance of accident, plus that leads to longer and slower travel times and sometimes frustrated/impatient drivers. But hey, it’s Lakewood- so we all must be terrible, non caring drivers, who love to run over pedestrians who have “the right of way” and cross in middle of a 4 lane busy street (40-45 mph speed limit there) as if it’s a cul de sac!
SO NOW DO YOU ALL FINALLY AGREE WITH ME THAT OUR TOWN NEEDS MORE TRAFFIC LIGHTS OR DO WE NEED TO HAVE MORE OF THESE STORIES ??????????????
In the morning hours people crOSS route 9 between 88 and county line road and do NOT use the crosswalk, which is jaywalking and Lakewood has a current jaywalking ordinance which I’ve never seen enforced. Tent city is not the problem, the problem lies with our county government NOT having a shelter to help re establish these folks. Anybody who drives through Lakewood is really playing with their safety as many are not concerned with safety, my proof, I also see many not wearing their seatbelts, maintaining their vehicle as to keep it safe, broken headlights , taillights, non working wipers stuck in the up position, bumpers secured with tape and bungie cords..I can go on forever. Lakewood needs to hand out more tickets for these infractions. Some will disagree with me. But I speak the truth. Stop building, the roads CANNOT handle any more cars, as each household adds about 5 cars because many homes are 2 three and 4 families.
Traffic lights will help, if people obey them….I.E
Not running them, not turning , on red, obeying the delayed green sign, and stopping on the white line , not ten feet past it, so tractor trailers can make their wide turns.
Lol, they are building a huge CVS pharmacy on prospect and 9 , across from the hospital. I know this is going to be a problem. It will not get any better folks, the sooner we accept that and be more courteous and careful, it will. Btw. I have NOT been pulled over nor ticketed since 1991.
