Three pedestrians, two of them children, were struck this afternoon in separate incidents, officials say. The first incident, involving a child, occurred on Prospect Street near the high point development at approximately 4:30 PM.
The child was transported by EMS to Kimball Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The second incident reportedly occurred in the area of River Avenue when a woman was struck. Her condition is unknown at this time.
A third pedestrian, also a child, was struck in the Brookhill development.
Hatzolah responded and transported the patient to Jersey Shore Medical Center also with non life-threatening injuries. TLS.
is lakewood going for some kind of record as to how many pedestrians can be struck within one month?
A day, some1, how many in a day. The electricity was off in many parts of Lakewood so many drivers simply could not see.
My husband was present at the second incident. The woman is fine. She wasnt struck. The car was going 1 mile per hour. Please dont exaggerate. She claimed that the car was running the stop sign. It wasn’t true!!!
Sadly at least once a yr it seems a child is struck by car in Brookhill! Drivers, please slow down! Parents please educate your children not to play, or even be, close to the street!!
It’s light out. They can see they just aren’t looking
Besides drivers slowing down in Brookhill, it seems that no one teaches their kids to stay off the street. Kids ride bikes, walk and play in the street as if it was closed to traffic.
What a ridiculous comment RebRambo. The power was out so they couldn’t see??? Wow, some people.
the first child was on a bike and went into the car- the driver was 100 % not at fault!
I have driven in many complexes in Lakewood where the children play in the street for lack of outdoor space to play. Quite a few times when I honk for the children to move out of the way, the children stick out their tongues like I am doing a crime by asking them to move out of the way. Some children refuse to get out of the way of passing cars unless the driver actually honks or yells at them. Parents should please teach children safety rules as it is not always possible to see a two year running behind a car. Children under a certain age should not be left unsupervised outside and older siblings who are playing ball are not considered proper supervision.
the driver in brookhill was also 100% not at fault
If you are driving the speed limit or below in a residential area then there is no reason why you should not be able to stop in time if something were to come in front of your car. It’s bad driving plus horrible supervision and lack of discipline in children that causes these accidents.
hey! # 2 I know what I wrote! I meant month because if you recall there were 2 other people struck by vehicles this past month in lakewood!!!!
BTW – nice excuse! they couldn’t see! Yeah right!!!!
when i was a child in lakewood we had woods to play in, why don`t the kids play there now? OH I FORGOT, there are no more woods!!
parents must be so proud to learn that their kids are sticking out their tongues to drivers.then again, they wouldn’t know because THEY’RE NOT WATCHING THEIR KIDS!!!!!
so do you finally agree with me that we need more of me up in this town now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
drivers are not trustworthy and must be stopped by me mr traffic light !!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey!#2 there were two other people struck by vehicles THIS MONTH in lakewood!!!
Hey “some1”! Stop shouting, you are giving us an ear-ache! And why do you need three comments to get your point across! And your apprection of sdark, wry, dry or other humor is on par with a door-knob! And, and, and…!!!!!
We can all thank the zoning board for allowing these development to go up beacuse ‘wink wink’ it is good for the neighborhood. This sham of approving housing developments must stop! Zoning is trying to get townhouses approved on brook road a curvy dangerous road behing white oaks. Embarrasing.
Slow down, be careful and observant, stay off the phone, and always be prepared to stop when pedestrians are nearby.
Accidents are very often preventable, providing that all parties work together to create a safe environment. If you are under the mistaken belief that if a child or any person is in the wrong, that you are in the right to take the right-of-way, you are wrong,
Motorist must yield the right-of-way, but must never take the right-of-way from a pedestrian or another vehicle.
If you are sure that you wish to harm no one, then follow the rules of the road, and give pedestrians a break. What if it was your child?
Comment #9 took the words off my keyboard.
#11 – what do you mean “If you are driving the speed limit or below in a residential area then there is no reason why you should not be able to stop in time”?
speed limit on a residential street is 25 mph unless otherwise marked. At 25 mph, you CANNOT stop for a child who runs or rides directly in front of, or into, your car.
Let’s ALL be safe, but let’s acknowledge that sometimes one party – yes, often the driver – is not the one at fault.
face it. in reality a lot of motorists tend to be careless.they talk on the phone, drive too fast, get distracted by kids in the car, & are usually trying to beat the clock-you take your life in your hands trying to get around lakewood..people need to focus on the road & slow down.
Huh
