2024 Lakewood Leaf Removal Begins November 1st

It is the season for our front lawns and streets to be filled with fallen leaves, and Lakewood Township Department of Public Works (DPW) is on it. But it is up to homeowners to do the necessary prep to ensure that their leaves will indeed be removed.

During the months of November and December, the DPW’s special fleet of leaf collection trucks makes its rounds to every home in town to remove the accumulated leaves, provided that they are placed in the proper location. (During the rest of the year, DPW will only collect leaves from a property when requested.)

DPW Director Phil Roux explains that in order for leaves to be picked up, they need to be raked curbline, similar to where you would park a car. The leaves must be left in piles of leaves only (no wood, brush, dirt, etc.) and should be left in a loose pile (not in bags etc.). Additionally, the leaves must be piled a minimum of 10 feet away from storm water drains.

It is crucial that homeowners prepare the piles in their proper places before the trucks come to their home.

When are they coming to clean your leaves?

It’s simple: Depends on when your regular garbage pickup is!

Zone 1: Regular garbage pickup on Mondays: Leaf removal first week of month (November 1st – 8th; and December 2nd – 6th)

Zone 2: Regular garbage pickup on Tuesdays: Leaf removal second week of month (November 11th – 15th; and December 9th – 13th)

Zone 3: Regular garbage pickup on Wednesdays: Leaf removal third week of month (November 18th – 22nd; and December 16th – 20th)

Zone 4: Regular garbage pickup on Thursdays: Leaf removal fourth week of month (November 25th – 27th; and December 23rd – 27th)

Leaf removal only comes to your house twice a year – once in November and once in December. Be on the lookout and get your rakes in action before the truck shows up. You do not want to miss your cleaning!

“We would like to thank Lakewood’s homeowners and residents in advance for preparing their leaves in a proper and timely manner, and making the collection process smooth and efficient,” says Director Roux. “The DPW looks forward to continue working together with residents to make Lakewood as clean, safe and beautiful as can be.”
