IN G-D WE TRUST? The Supreme Court’s acceptance of Toeva Marriages – by Rabbi Dovid Abenson

national day of reflectionOn Friday June 26 2015 the American people witnessed the fabric of society and the foundation of morality and family life being destroyed. The supreme court of America formally legalized Toeva or same gender marriages, in all 50 states, with the premise of “we can do whatever our “heart” desires, and Hashem will not determine how we should lead our lives.”

It is surprising to still see in circulation the American dollar bill with the words “in G-d we trust” emblazoned on each bill, and the President of the United States likewise echo “ G-d bless America” after his speeches to the American people!

The question is, is it Hashem or the Supreme Court they trust?

The US President, who is one of the most influential people in the world is not setting the tone for justice and moral boundaries, but has now completely damaged the structure of society by formally creating an atmosphere of S’dom and Amorrah.

The rainbow emblem of Toeva relationships, which represents openly and accepted permissiveness, is now splashed all over America with flags and even rainbow colored lights which were shone over the White House in celebration of the new legislation. This rainbow symbol, which personifies rebelliousness “against” Hashem’s will, actually epitomizes the opposite in the Torah.

After the Mabul, Hashem made a covenant with Noach, that He would never flood the world again and whenever the Satan would accuse and condemn mankind, Hashem would bring a rainbow to remind us of the covenant with Noach. Therefore, when the rainbow appears, it is to ensure us that despite our averos, Hashem promises not to bring destruction again. This consideration when seeing the rainbow should invoke teshuva in mankind’s hearts and minds.

Today’s world transmits the opposite message. The rainbow colors are now representing the opposite of Hashem’s will through perversion and immorality.

We can look back to the tremendous foresight of the Lubavitcher Rebbe ztz”l, when, over 3 decades ago, in 1981, he foresaw the rapid decline of morality and thus created a campaign to teach the Seven Mitzvos Bnei Noach to mankind. In fact, the President at that time, President Ronald Reagan, backed the Rebbe’s call to educate the masses and to maintain morality in the world. With this in mind, on April 4, 1982, the National Day of Reflection was born.

Clearly, unfortunately, whilst there are those upstanding citizens who do adhere to the Seven Mitzvos Bnei Noach, the mandates are not fully integrated into our society, as can be seen from the latest developments of Toeva marriages, which is one of the 7 Noachide Laws.

With the above elucidated for us, what should our goal be now?

Klal Yisroel is considered “a light unto the nations”( Yeshaya 42:6 ), and we are obligated to act as an example to the world, and beseech Hashem for the Supreme court to re-track this law of abomination. As the Lubavitcher Rebbe proclaimed through foresight, in order to regenerate the foundations of morality, we need to continue educating the masses to the significance of keeping the Mitzvos Bnei Noach and strengthen the already existing groups.

Just as Asifas have taken place acting as prevention against the pitfalls of internet usage, we need to create an awareness in our establishments to educate our children, that, even though pervasiveness has unfortunately become allowed and accepted in the wider society as normal, it remains not just “ossur min haTorah” (VaYikra 20:13), it is ossur for all mankind, through the Seven Mitzvos Bnei Noach.

May “in G-d we trust” manifest itself in its true sense, where all mankind will accept that Hashem Hu HaElokim, Hashem Echad.

  1. remove yourself from this to’aiva country. if you remain in the USA then you are supporting & approving their ways. the only way to save yourself now is to remove yourself from this destructive country before its too late & go to Eretz yisroel or another country that doesnt support To’aiva

    Hatzlacha

  2. This country with it’s current leader has shown no respect for humanity. For the last 5000 years this was the way hashem made this world and this “GUY” decides that he can change it??

The lights were lit at the whitehouse. Those colorful lights lit up the entire whitehouse. Isn’t the whitehouse supposed to show solidarity with every AMERICAN citizen? Did you let them do this?

Well truth be told who ever voted for this moron to be elected has there share in whatever he does. America is the world power, dling such descripting things simply presents the opposite.

I am shocked with the response from our hanhola and boards. Instead of all that a group of jews donated to OBAMA and his campaigns just recently.

If I were you, I would not be living in a country that blantly and openly accepts something that is simply against G-D. Isn’t our entire Judaism based off these principles which we’ve kept for over 5000 years??

I’m writing this in horror on what may befall in the next couple of years when more things are allowed and when morals are no longer existing.

I appreciate this well thought of article and hopefully people wake up, and then possibly we’ll see Moshiach at our side this Tisha Ba’av.

  3. To those saying we should move to other countries, America is still one of the most socially conservative countries in the world & is also one of the only countries with a constitutional freedom of religion. If there is a moral crisis nowadays, it’s a world problem not just an American problem

  4. It’s obvious from reading the comments here many posters have not read the Supreme Court decision that is the subject of this article. Nor do many of the writers understand the US govt. is not a theocracy.

Isn’t it nice that the same govt you decry let’s you express your personal opinions openly and publicly.

  5. Those who blame President Obama do not know how our political Democracy works. The Supreme Court acts totally independent of the Executive Branch. The President can influence the Supreme Court by appointing liberal or conservative judges to it. The Supreme Court is presently composed of a majority of conservative judges. Some of those judges agreed with the decision to legalize same gender marriage. What the President wants means nothing to the Supreme Court. If you don’t like the way our Democracy works, you should leave immediately.
