Various roads in 4 towns will see safety and pavement improvements as part of a road reconstruction project slated to begin later this year. A total of 5.75 miles of county roads will be reconstructed and resurfaced as part of a single contract to be bid by the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders this spring.
“This is part of our ongoing effort to improve safety throughout our county road network for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians,” said Freeholder Director John P. Kelly.
The roads included in this contract include:
• Herbertsville Road from the Monmouth County line to Lanes Mills Road in Brick Township.
• The entire length of Farraday Avenue in Lakewood and Jackson townships.
• Long Beach Boulevard from 31st to 59 streets in Long Beach Township.
• James Street from Main Street to Hooper Avenue in Toms River Township.
• Massachusetts Avenue from Cox Cro Road to Route 70, Toms River Township.
• Vermont Avenue from Cox Cro Road to the Lakewood Township line, Toms River Township.
• Buckwald Drive at Ocean County College in Toms River Township.
All of the roads will be milled and resurfaced with new signage added, Kelly said.
Kelly, who also serves a Director of Law and Public Safety, said pedestrian sidewalk ramps will be upgraded to meet the latest federal Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
Stormwater inlet grates will be replaced with bicycle-safe grates that also meet state Department of Environmental Protection water quality standards, Kelly said.
Work on all seven roads should be completed by the late summer or early fall, said Freeholder Deputy Director James F. Lacey, liaison to the Ocean County Road Department.
“With 626 miles of county roads and 259 bridges and culverts, we are constantly monitoring and maintaining our road network,” Lacey said. TLS.
I only see 1 road in Lakewood
All very important but Ridge Ave should get done long before these roads. As well as 6th street from Princeton to Clifton Ave.
There are so many other roads in lakewood that need repaving before those mentioned.
The County is only paving County Roads. The Township is responsible for local (Twp) roads.
These are county roads which are being paid for by the county as opposed to local roads which would come out of township funds.
What about County Line Road??

#7 you make a great point . why should these developers not be made to pay for repairing the roads that heve been ripped up to make way for their developments , Why should we have to suffer and pay as well.
There are no roads in Lakewood Twp being done..except for a small length of Faraday..#7 I believe you are correct..but most contractors half a$$ the road repairs and never really do anything about it..road upgrades are a vital part for the first responders..safety for both the residents and the Emergency personnel driving on them..
What about County Line Road?? between brook and Forest
I think you may have noticed that your tax money is not being used to make your roads safer. Lakewood is very tough to drive through.
