14th Street Residents Discuss Expansion Of Georgian Court College

zoning_meeting_14th_stUPDATED 7:55 a.m.14th Street residents filled Town Hall for tonight’s Zoning Board meeting to discuss the expansion of Georgian Court College. The college is seeking approvals to add 1200 parking spots, new dormitories and a soccer field. They are looking to add entrances/exits by Cedarview Ave and by Case rd. Not opposing the process, the Attorney’s asked for two things. They argued that the process the University was taking in getting approvals was not a legal process. They also requested the University sit down with the neighbors and allow their input into the application. The Planning board then directed a sub committee to work with both sides and help them sit together so they can work out the details together. A full report will be posted at a later time.

  1. So let me understand. A college in town actually wants to provide their students with on site parking plus. divert traffic away from the forest and ninth bottle neck and people come to complain. Way to Go.

  2. That picture was not taken at tonights meating A.I was there and sitting in one of the seats shown in the picture B. The men are not wearing yarmukahs so it is great to have such pictures but don’t fool everyone into thinking that the lakewood scoop was at the scene capturing it they were not

  3. Are you kidding me..they are going to build on their own property and are asking for permission to do that..wow..The only problem I can see it the residents that feel the traffic will hinder the “quiet neighborhood” on forest ave?? For that University to do this is Great!! they need to expand..their enrollment is going through the roof. It is a great school, and they have a lot of space on that property..the expansion would be great for the school.

  4. quiet 14th street area……..when in 1980’s maybe…….
go for it GCC we support you……….
you will never notice 1 car from there……
    give us a break…….

  5. They want to creat bottle neck on fourteenth and forest.. An intersection that is just barely managing the residents that pay taxes come first!

  6. Sorry but you migh not want to hear this. turn the tables imagine if BMG wants to do the same. Provide parking for their students and build a dorm would anyone complain? Did any of the neighbors complain when they moved to 11 th and forest? Now GCC want to and people come w/ all complinats. I do feel for the people of MAgnolia and they should work out $$$$ w. GCC for allowing them the access but…..

  7. Regarding BMG multiple neighbors complained about them regarding traffic and so on. I would like to know how can GCU take down so much trees down with out hearing a peep out the that they are ruing the green in this town and the habitat of a lot of wildlife that lives in the area there. But when someone builds a development a.k.a
a “Tax Cash Cow” all the land preservists come out of the wood work. (Not to justify the developments). Also I would like to know how much does the town gain from GCU? BMG at least all the students live here and PUMP $$$$$ into the local economy.

  8. Its not right to make a colege entrance on a quiet residential st. The roads are not designed for such heavy traffic.

  9. Though this might be obvious to some, I would like to remind everyone that we share our town with non jews. For so many different things we intrude on their good graces, and for the most part, they treat us with respect and understanding. If we want peace and serenity with our neighbors, then let us respond to this with grace, patience and understanding.

  10. LOL at those complaining about Georgian Court traffic. The money pumped into the Lakewood economy is like an open faucet. Services cost money.

  11. 14th and forest can have a light installed as well as by madison and there won’t b any traffic jams!

    way to go gcc!

  12. GCC has been there for over 100 years it is time for people to adjust and realize others exsist in this town not just them. Let the college expand, as a former student I prayed for a spot on campus because if you had to park on the street you never knew what condition your car would be in when you came out of class. Not all lakewood drivers are respectful of the rules of the road. One would think the opponents wouldn’t complain as it would allieviate the parking situations on these roads.

  13. The opposition is more on where they will put additional entrances to GCU. Magnolia is a narrow street in a quiet residential area, with lots of children and no sidewalks. An entranceway on Magnolia and Case will bring lots more traffic, making it dangerous for our children. They could open another entrance on Lakewood Avenue, between 7th and 8th. The street is wide enough to make a left turning lane there, and it would not interfere with residents.

  14. Rabbosai, You have no idea the magnitude of this project. Basically GCU is intending on creating an enourmous sports complex on their site. They have every right to construct whatever they please, but bear in mind that this type plan is being put in place so that they can attract outside guestsand visitors to their sports events and concerts. Think outside the box guys…in the next 10 years you will not see trees alongside Ninth St., Forest Ave. 14th St and Case. You will see 5 more dormitory buildings that will accomodate an addtl 450 students !! You will see a 50,000 sq’ gymnasium. Alongside Forest and 14th will be devoid of trees and you will see the “vieber” playing soccer, lacrose and volleyball !!! Traffic off Hope and 14th Street on the weekends will be unbearable. Think before you comment…this propasal of theirs is huge. Its not just a 14th Street issue, its a klall issue that is not yet hitting you hard enough in the face. But it will, when your kids start to watch the sports events on Shabbos and when you start to notice the newest ladies fashions on the 450 students strolling along Lakewood Ave. and North Lake Drive.

  15. Basically we taxpayers are being burdened by institutions that pay no taxes, the more students they bring the more tax we pay, and BTW the students could have a vote.
Although it never made it to the constitution, it was the foundation of it. No taxation without representation, unfortunatly it doesn’t apply in Lakewood, the non taxpayers force the tax payers how to vote.
Let me repeat the fondation NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.
It is time for a tea part in Lakewood.

  16. I think that I would just cause more skilled lakewood drivers to get distracted and drive in to that GGC historic fence on north lake dr for the billionth time
