Letter: 12 years ago my wife, Shari Gordon noticed that many people in town were either looking to borrow a costume or others had costumes to lend for Purim. She decided that we can collect people’s gently used costumes and lend them others in the community. This allowed families to get “new to you” costumes each year with out spending more money. The costumes are from infants sizes to adults plus many accessories.
We started with just 50 donated costumes and have grown to offering over 1,000 costumes and accessories to the Central NJ families. We even have families coming in from Monsey, Brooklyn and Lakewood. All costumes are donated and all monies collected (suggested $5 donation per costume) is donated to the Ohav Emeth Youth Department. The Gemach has been able to donate over $5,000 over the years. We started in the Library, moved to the shul hallway and finally, have taken over the large social hall.
The main focus is providing costumes for Purim, but we have also provided costumes for school plays, special adult programs and camps for their theme days.
This year, the Gemach will be open Sunday March 3rd from 10am-4pm, Sunday March 10th 10am-4pm and Wednesday night March 13th 6pm-8pm. Congregation Ohav Emeth, 415 Raritan Ave, Highland Park, NJ. For more inforamtion, please email [email protected]
