JUST IN: Vaad Releases Statement On To’eiva Marriage Bill

Vaad Statement_wmFIRST REPORT: The following is a statment just released by the Lakewood Vaad: A bill has been introduced in the New Jersey Legislature to “redefine” the long-established meaning of conventional marriage to include lifestyles that are an affront to our Torah, our moral principles and the family values shared by most Americans. Our community cannot stand silent without a strong protest of this hurtful proposal. Additionally, there is the real issue of our religious freedom. America has a long and precious tradition of allowing full freedom for us to practice our religion as defined by the Torah and our Rabbinical authorities. Passage of this bill may infringe on those freedoms by forcing the legal acceptance of deviant and immoral lifestyles. The NJ Senate is scheduled to vote on this bill this Thursday. The vote is expected to be very close.
Please contact every NJ senator you can to politely express your vehement opposition to this proposed “alternative marriage” legislation.
Sample Call: “I would like to express my deep opposition to the Redefining Marriage Bill. It goes against the core family values America was built on”.

  1. This bill will not force you to accept toeiva marriage any more then you are forced to accept the legitmacy of intermarriage. (or accept non jewish kids into your relgious private schools, or make housing developments were you only sell to orthodox jews ect.)

    To claim otherwise is silly.

  2. personally I could care less if they put this into law or not this country was over when they put in Obama. I don’t think we will ever recover from him. I’m looking to move to Israel and I think we all should.

  3. We seem to want it both ways. we vote them into office knowing were they stand on the issue, and then wonder why they vote that way. shame on us

  4. Who cares if it passes or not?? Will we all be exposed to that lifestyle anymore than we are already?? Do you think men might all of a sudden decide to marry a man because of this?? Nobody is choosing this lifestyle regardless if this passes or not. Let them marry eachother! I fail to see how this will affect me.

  5. I think if this is so important to the vaad, the yeshiva should close for the day and have all yungerleit sit home ion the phone & call these phone numbers.

  6. America is the land of freedom, this is why everyone from around the world comes to live in America. You should be able to live your life freely with whom ever it is, male-male, female-female, black-white, etc..
If you don’t like the living arrangements that people make in America then leave. Live day by day in the way that makes you and your love one happy.
We should all speak out and protest more important things in life instead of who we can marry and spend the rest of our lives with.

  7. I called all 40 senators on this list. It took less than 1 hour. The area code for Sen. Gordon is 201. Baroni and Girganti could not be reached, even to leave a message. Only 5 senators said they agree with the opposition of the bill: Bateman, Beck, Doherty, Haines and Thomas H. Kean. That doesn’t mean the others agree with the bill, but they did not volunteer that information. I do not have time to do this, but I did it in the name of R. Avigdor Miller, ZT”L, who surely would have had us sign our names on the list to the Senators that would have been on the bima in his shul.

  8. He didn’t volunteer that info. I guess I should have asked each one what their view is, but too late for me. Someone else would like to give it a run?

  9. I’m pretty certain such a list would NOT have been on the bima in his shul since such actions violate federal law and would have caused his shul to lose its nonprofit and tax exempt status.

  10. Sorry, okay, you know better than me. But I do remember going there on Thurs. evenings and signing petitions for things like this that would be then given to the legislators.

  11. Quite a few asked if I was for or against the bill. When I inquired if the senator had a position on the matter, the reply was they wanted to see where poeple stand on the issue. Obviously the popular opinion can influence their vote. If they sense an overwhelming opposition they will oppose. Everyone who possibly can needs to call in.

Senator Jennifer Beck (732) 933-1591 Office was the only one who had the chutzpah to say she voted for the bill last night and will vote for it when it comes to the floor. Ring her phone off the hook.

  12. What bothers me about this whole ruckus is that when I saw the video of the demonstration in Trenton, the only Rabbi looking people there were those two clowns who hug the Iranian leader and are worthless. Where were the real Rabbis?

  13. Please!!! Senator Jennifer Beck voted AGAINST the bill as did all R’s – except for the one who is accused of being a foigel himself.
