Just weeks after a number of drivers in Lakewood reported issues with their vehicles after filling up on gas at the BP Gas station on Route 9, as reported on TLS, the gas company has announced a recall in two cities – though a recall was never issued for Lakewood.
The following is being reported by Autoblog. “Recalls are quite common in the automotive world, but this recent recall is out of the ordinary. BP has just announced a recall for contaminated gasoline in the northwest Indiana and northeast Illinois areas that have evidently caused numerous drivability issues in customer vehicles. Apparently, this recall only applies to regular grade gasoline that originated from BP’s Whiting, Ind. storage facility last week and purchased at BP gas stations and “other retail outlets,” which according to the Times of Northwest Indiana includes Costco, Meijer, Thorntons and Luke Oil gas stations.
BP did not say what the source of the contamination was, but it did respond to the incident by saying that it guarantees its gasoline and customers who had problems between August 13-17 can call the customer hotline at 1-800-333-3991 to get help. The report said that one customer had a $1,200 repair bill at a dealership to drain the gas tank, flush the fuel lines and replace the spark plugs, but it isn’t clear what sort of problems most people are experiencing.
There has been no official estimate as to how many customers’ cars were, or may have been, affected, but the report says that one dealership in Lansing, Illinois had more than 60 calls about fuel-related vehicle problems, and other dealerships and repair shops in the area have received service calls about this issue as well.”
Media outlets in the Chicago area are reporting that BP has confirmed today that the contaminated gas has been sold in Illinois and Michigan.
how do i return the gas i already used ???
First they contaminate the gulf, now our cars. Isn’t it high time we get gasoline from good ole USA??
Can we sue them?
I live in Michigan. My car died last Tuesday it had all the symptom that everyone is saying. I took it to the shop and he said it was my gas. I have an older car and it was going to cost too much to repair so I just had it towed home. Just want to say I bought my gas before the 13th so they don’t really know when this really happened
