PHOTOS & VIDEO: Two boaters enjoying a boat ride on Friday got stranded and needed to be rescued. The boaters, both wearing life jackets, headed out for a ride on an inflatable boat, but got stuck in brush a few hundred feet off shore in the area of Carasaljo Drive.
Luckily, one of the stranded boaters had a cell phone, and called for help.
Police and EMS responded to the Lake, but as police sent for a motorized boat, a neighbor – Nisin Yanai of South Lake Movers – saw the commotion and jumped onto his boat and headed out for the rescue.
Yanai reached the stranded boaters and assisted them onto his boat and rowed to safety.
The boaters apologized to all the emergency responders, and thanked them for their quick response and assistance. TLS.
Did they get ticketed for this?
they were attemting shiluach haken
at least their okay.. i guess it was a bad idea to try to build a private school on the water..!! ( since theres almost no land left )
Why would they be ticketed???
you sound like a bitter public school teacher….
As you can see in the video, the water is very shallow at the western end of the lake. Boaters beware. There are places there where the water is less then a foot deep. The bottom of the lake is all sand, and it is dangerous to walk there with lots of growing reeds.
great job always out to help others i remember wen he got that boat good times
Glad they are both OK, but here are the problems. The big guy needs a bigger life jacket, it doesn’t work if it doesn’t close. Had he fallen in, it would have slipped right off him. The rescuer should have had a life jacket on, but nice job anyway.
It’s just a matter of time a boater will drown in the lake.
Lakewood had an ordinance against inflatable boats in the lakes since a drowning a few years ago.
Lcsw members rescued stuck boaters a few weeks ago, people need to be more careful in that lake
Nisin Yanai wa hero and stay hero
why are all the onlookers so close to the scene. this is not only distracting to the officers & rescuers, but really rude. i dont think you’d want someone standing over your shoulder while you do your job.
people please- just because you see people you know, or officers that are known to be friendly, or rescue workers you have befriended = keep all your kids and yourselves OUT OF THE AREA. its unreal how many times that has caused onlooker injuries. dont parents understand that emergency scenes can grow out of control very quickly and can either physically injure a child, or mentally scar a child if they see something they are not prepared to comprehend.
The expressions on the faces of the first responders are priceless! I laughed thru the whole slide show
