Get ready to pay more for tolls when traveling on the Garden State Parkway and NJ Turnpike. Beginning January 1st, motorists will see an increase in tolls, in what is the second part of a two-phase toll increase approved in 2008 by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and then Gov. Jon Corzine.
Tolls will increase 50 percent on the Parkway and 53 percent on the Turnpike.
The toll hike will help pay for construction projects on the Parkway and the NJ Turnpike. TLS.
I just discovered I can take 295 south on the way to baltimore instead of the turnpike, $5 saved each way. With these new increases, I will keep looking for alternative routes to avoid this price gouging.
When I go to longbranch I take side highways instead of the parkway and the timing is the same just change the settings on your gps to avoid tolls
I take side roads to longbranch just change settings on your gps to avoid tolls it takes the same amount of time
Why are the tolls going so high?
Why do the tolls keep on increasing?
face it, somebody’s gotta pay for all the road construction projects. It will either be an increase in your state income tax, property tax or toll hike.
Toll hike makes the most sense because let the people who use the road pay for the road.
The tolls caused such traffic a long time ago, they were about to be abolished. But then came the brilliant idea of EZ Pass. Let’s all stop using EZ Pass for a few weeks and they’ll have to abolish the tolls totally. Carry cash for just a short while. The commute may take a little longer for a few weeks but I’m sure we’ll see results! The least that will happen is that they’ll give discounts for using EZ Pass, at least during rush hours.
The problem is that with EZ Pass these days, so many people do not even know what they are paying.
its about time they raised tolls
The toll increases are needed to pay the over paid under worked toll collectors and their supervisors. After the winter they will tell us how bad it was and how much salt they needed to clear the roads and ask for MORE money. We the consumer/taxpayers are an unlimited source of money.
Highway Robbery!
To #1 you can also take 195/29 into trenton take the “trenton makes” metal bridge to rt 1 s till the 95 thru phily thru delaware ( therby skiping the del memorial bridge toll ) skip the delaware turnpike toll by getting off the exit befor and using d rt4 ……. and you got to baltimore without paying any tolls
anybody know of a way to NY instead of the pkwy ? (besides the 9 that is farshlept like anything)
Great tip! How much extra time does it add to the trip to take the local routes like 29 and rt 1? looks like you are on route 1 for 8 miles, which can be pretty long for a road with lights? and what about 95 down through philly, is that a nightmarish drive?
