Residents who have received their tax bills over the last few days will notice a slight reduction in their taxes as the tax rate was reduced, while assessments remained flat. The reduction comes at a time when costs are rising, and surrounding towns – for the most part – have introduced increased budgets.
Although not a drastic reduction, Committeeman Albert Akerman says “We’re headed in the right direction”.
But a lot of the credit says Akerman, should be given to the various departments working with the lower budgets.
“Many departments are making do with less manpower and many employees have gotten minimal increases in salary or no increase at all”, says Committeeman Akerman. “While there are empty empty seats in most township departments due to an ongoing hiring freeze, I give full credit to the employees for managing the extra workload while keeping their spirits up.”
The departments which saw cuts, were the the BOE budget, the Fire Department budget and Municipal budget – to which Deputy Mayor Langert is liaison. TLS.

I don’t know who he is referring to but mine went UP. I am already paying over 9k on a 55 year old house with no new construction.

The tax rate was lowered from 2.308 to 2.27. For anybody who’s taxes went up, its because your assessment went up for some reason.

One reason taxes went down was because their are twenty less police office then in 2000 and the population went up by 30,000 people.
It went down by 1% for someone to save a few hundred $ you’re taxes must be atleast 30000 most residents save betwen $50-$60 a year that’s nothing
Whoopie do! My taxes went down $139 a year($8424 to 8285) that’s like almost $12 a month!! Maybe now I can afford a nice lawn like the fd on monmouth ave. The lakewood township should tell the tea party in Washington how to do this!
It’s the truth-it’s didn’t go down by much, but it’s a step in the right direction.
Anyone who writes that their taxes went up either built an extention to their house or is making a mistake.
No existing houses were reassessed this year and the tax rate went down.
Every other expense in life went up but in Lakewood, taxes went down. Kudos to the Board of Ed, Township Committee and Fire Department. We know it couldn’t have been easy and we appreciate what you’ve done for us.

Amazing we complain and moan for tax reduction any program that we don’t like we scream”thats my taxes…” A miracle happens government works and taxes go slightly down and then we hear “big deal its only a few dollars….” If it would have went up 50 cents everyone would be shouting how unfair etc.it is! You can’t ever win!
I also went up without construction… true my assessment went up – not sure how they can do that without an inspection or a township wide reassessment – but that is the case here.
if you look at the tax portion percenteges you will see that the overwhelming part of the decrease (and more importantly the lack of an increase) came from the BOE. kudos to seitler and co.
btw does anybody know when the last time lakewoods tax rate went down?
My taxes also went up slightly.And it is amazing because I’m from the few people in my neighborhood who didn’t fight his assessment.I guess I will do so next year.
You are 100% correct! If my taxes would have gone up even a little bit I would have been an unhappy camper.

The only other way your taxes went up is if you are in a newly built home and moved in within the last 2 years. In that case it takes 2 years until all the improvements are calculated and the back taxes are figured out. Otherwise it is impossible to have had a tax increase this year.
Let’s remember that last year there was a proposed 339.00 increase per household (on average) from the BOE which was cut down to zero. This year instead of another 350.00 increase there was a 150.00 decrease. taken together most people have saved 1,000 dollars a year in taxes since the “gang of 4” entered politics. I am amazed that they are not being heralded all over town as super heroes. Just shows you how people just like to complain and never give appreciation.
Mr. Ackerman should have at least mentioned these noble BOE members by name.
My roof is more than 25 years old, my siding needs painting, windows need replacing, etc. etc. In order to get my house into top shape I’d need the money from at least two years of taxes. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income and I can’t afford any taxes. After age 65 taxes taxes should at least be reduced by half.
The county tax rate went up that’s why some of your taxes did.
Mr. Akerman is a man of his words. Politics aside you can always count on Isacc to do what’s right.
My taxes went up. Over 9.5k for a townhouse in a development. ????????? Who cares??????????
