Over nine years ago, TLS founded and sponsored the ‘Click It and Lick It’ summer program in effort to get more children to wear helmets, and as a result, safety has greatly increased in Lakewood.
Now, in response to the numerous pedestrian accidents in Lakewood, TLS has launched a winter edition of the popular ‘Click It and Lick It’ program – in an effort to get more children to wear reflectors.
By the time children get out of school, it’s already dark outside, posing a great danger to both drivers and motorists. This program will enhance safety for all.
“The Click It & Lick It ice cream program by The Lakewood Scoop has greatly increased helmet safety in Lakewood, and this new program for reflectors is sure to do the same,” said Police Chief Greg Meyer. “We thank The Lakewood Scoop for creating this great program to enhance safety throughout Lakewood.”
In the coming days, patrol officers from the Lakewood Police Department will be patrolling with bundles of gift cards like the ones pictured, and if they observe your child wearing a reflector, he or she will be receiving the card for a free kiddie ice cream at Sprinkles (located in the Gourmet Glatt Plaza on Route 9, and in Todd Plaza). It’s that simple!
(Talking about Sprinkles for a moment, Lakewood’s favorite ice cream shop, did you know they can come to you for your next birthday party, day camp or corporate event? That’s right – with a full bar of shakes, crepes, waffles, smoothies and much more!)
(BE SURE TO CHECK OUT SPRINKLES’ NEW WEBSITE!)
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PARENTS: This program is specifically being done in conjunction with the Lakewood Police Department for security and safety reasons. Cards will ONLY be given out by patrol officers in a MARKED police car. No private citizens whatsoever will be distributing these cards. Children should be told never to approach a stranger’s vehicle – even if he or she claims to be from the Law Enforcement community. If you see someone other than a police officer attempting to give a child the ice cream card, please report it to the LPD & TLS immediately.
Great idea! Will the cops be handing out reflector belts as well?
