Howell Police officers have expressed and voted zero confidence in their Police Chief Andrew Kudrick – exposing him as man who largely recognizes no authority other than himself.
During the Howell Township meeting on Tuesday, PBA Local 228 President and Officer James Alexander read a prepared letter accusing the Chief of waging a targeted campaign against his own people.
Only two members out of 71 supported the Chief, and they did so anonymously, the President stated.
“Over the course of the last two years, the morale within our police department has sunk to an all-time low,” the letter stated. “Over the course of the last 18 months, Chief Kudrick has waged a targeted campaign against our Local, in general, and against our members, specifically. The hostility of this campaign has steadily increased over time.”
“There have been circumstances with the township administration has ruled in favor of our local, and Chief Kudrick has failed to comply with the decision rendered through our grievance procedure.”
The President says that despite consistently deteriorating conditions, they have reached out to the chief to engage in an open dialogue, but he ignored their requests for meetings. Alexander says it was not until the chief became aware of the vote of no confidence that he agreed to meet with them.
“We as a local have concluded that Chief Kudrick largely fails to recognize any authority outside of himself,” Alexander said.
He added, “We no longer feel that Chief Kudrick is motivated by doing what is right for the department, but that he is instead motivated by simply trying to prove that he is always right.”

Sounds like a Union vs Non Union dispute. I’m not familiar with the laws but it seems like a shmear campaign against his character in order to unionize.
Let’s remember there are two sides to every story. It would be interesting to know Chief Kudrick’s side.
Common man! Lets get rid of the chief because he got rid of the ATM machine and vending machines! “End of message”
isn’t there a State body which can investigate the claims and the facts?
Curious what is the total number of police officers in the Howell police Dept? Would be nice to know the percentage of union vs non union Howell cops. Something smells rotten when the entirety of this argument can be summed up for an atm and soda machine moved with a union office.
All full time police officers are “Union”, the part time “Special Officers” may not be, the Specials are only supposed to be used under certain circumstances. There is obviously something going on and probably has been for awhile. The ATM and Vending machine being ordered out of the building along with the removal of the PBA Office just seems retaliatory. The Chief seems to be doing a great job and so do the rank and file Officers, but I don’t work for the Chief. I am not picking sides on this issue and will hope it plays out in the end. It’s a shame the “dirty laundry” had to be made public.
he must be fired.
I would like to hear both sides of the story.
while it is educational to observe this case study in a fragmented force it is even more educational not to be exposed to any rift in the department it only serves to undermine the stature of the officers who rely on respect to carry out their duties peacefully
I also believe so, perfectly indited post!
