U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced the awarding of a combined $147,874,036 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Community Planning and Development to support the revitalization of communities across New Jersey.
“When we invest in our communities – regardless of zip code – we improve the quality of life for families across New Jersey,” said Sen. Menendez, a senior member of the Senate Banking and Housing Committee. “COVID-19 has taken a toll on our state and our families and communities need our support to weather this storm. And as we move forward as a state to build back better, this funding will be critical to ensuring that all New Jerseyans can take part in our economic recovery.
“This federal funding will allow New Jersey communities to bolster critical housing initiatives and provide essential supportive services to the most vulnerable among us,” said Sen. Booker. “Efforts like these are key to strengthening the state’s public housing network so that our residents have access to a safe and affordable place to live during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.”
The funding announced today comes from four different grants designed to revitalize struggling neighborhoods and expand access to affordable housing. They are: the Community Development Block (CDBG), the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG), the HOME program and the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Program.
