Biden Unveils Plans to Legalize Millions of Illegals – President Biden this week officially released details of his plan to provide a path to legalization for some 11 million illegal aliens living in the United States. The plan would allow illegal immigrants in the United States to receive temporary legal status, after passing background checks and paying taxes. This would allow them to work and travel in the United States without prosecution. They would then be allowed to apply for green cards after 5 years. The plan is right now unlikely to pass in Congress.

Trump Blasts McConnell – Former President Trump released a statement this week blasting Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell after he took Trump to task for his alleged role in the January 6th insurrection at the US Capitol. “Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again,” Trump said in the statement. “He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country. Where necessary and appropriate, I will back primary rivals who espouse Making America Great Again and our policy of America First. We want brilliant, strong, thoughtful, and compassionate leadership.” The statement came after McConnell voted to acquit Trump in the Senate impeachment trial but gave a speech on the Senate floor saying Trump was accountable, possibly criminally, for the riot.

Biden Speaks to Netanyahu – After several weeks of being in office without reaching out to America’s top ally in the Middle East, President Biden finally called Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu this week, a phone called that lasted roughly an hour and in which the two leaders discussed a broad range of issues. According to readouts from the call, Biden and Netanyahu reportedly discussed the Covid-19 pandemic, and regional issues, although it wasn’t clear whether they discussed the Palestinian issue on the call.

Ivanka Won’t Primary Rubio – Ivanka Trump, former President Trump’s daughter and top adviser, said that she would not primary Marco Rubio for his Senate seat, ending speculation and the urgings from Trump allies for her to do so. In a phone call with Rubio, Ivanka expressed her support for the senator and discussed holding a joint event in which they push for the passage of the Child Tax Credit.

NASA Lands Rover On Mars – A $2.2 billion rover named Perseverance built and controlled by NASA landed on Mars on Thursday, beginning a 2-year mission on the red planet to search for ancient life, as well as to determine how humans could potentially survive on the planet. Scientists across the world hailed the landing of the rover, which went without incident and culminates years of research and development of the craft in preparation for yesterday’s events. Perseverance sent back its first images of Mars shortly after landing, showing that it was safe and in proper working condition.

US Rejoins Paris Climate Agreement – The United States officially rejoined the Paris Climate Accord on Friday, vowing to never ignore climate issues again. After joining the agreement in 2015 under President Obama, the US withdrew from it under President Trump, who said that it would unfairly impact American businesses. “Addressing the real threats from climate change and listening to our scientists is at the center of our domestic and foreign policy priorities,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said. “It is vital in our discussions of national security, migration, international health efforts, and in our economic diplomacy and trade talks.”

Ted Cruz Under Fire – Texas Senator Ted Cruz has come under intense heat for flying with his family to Cancun, Mexico in the midst of the worst winter in Texas history. Millions have been without power or clean water for days as the state grapples with unprecedented cold and snow. Cruz was captured on camera flying to the Mexican resort town and flew back the next day. He first said that his daughters requested that the family go there and that he was simply chaperoning them. He later modified his claim, saying that he planned to be in Cancun with his family until Sunday but decided to turn back because he felt it was wrong for him to be on the sunny beaches while Texans were freezing.
