In a news conference held this morning near the scene of yesterday’s shooting, Jersey City mayor Steve Fulop said that the gunmen targeted the Jewish grocery store where several people, including two frum Jews, were killed. A heroic police officer, Detective Joe Seals, was killed earlier at a cemetery after he reportedly confronted the perpetrators, who were wanted in connection with a murder.
Mayor Fulop said that CCTV camera footage showed the gunmen drive a UHaul truck from the cemetery where Detective Seals was shot to the grocery store and opening fire. A law enforcement official said that one of the suspects involved in the carnage had published anti-Semitic and anti-police posts online, and that investigators now think that the attacks were motivated based on those beliefs.
While Mayor Fulop said he would not yet officially classify the attack as being motivated by anti-Semitism, officials are still investigating and that may change. Officials initially believed that the shooting had no terror or racial motivation behind it.
Law enforcement officials say that the perpetrators of the shooting were named David Anderson and Francine Graham. Police found a note with religious writings inside the U-Haul they drove to the scene. Reports say that Anderson had been a follower of the Black Hebrew Israelite movement.
If people were specifically targeted based on their race or religion, i.e. because they’re Jews as is being reported, then by definition this is a terror attack!
Wrong.
It is considered a hate crime.
A terrorist attack is generally accepted as referring to attacks perpetrated by radical Muslims against non-Muslims in the name of Islam.
What about Pancho Villa? What about Geronimo? They certainly were terrorists but not Muslim.
To yid: This is all off topic but I dont know where you got that from… you are incorrect. The label terrorism is not limited only to attacks by radical Muslims. Not only is there domestic terrorism, such as the radical anti-government nut Timothy McVey who blew up a building in Oklahoma City years ago killing many people including children, but there are also many other examples of terrorism. The attack by a terrorist group on the Chabad in Mumbai India was also terrorism.
The police are trying to cover up their failed operation and label it a hate crime …
Now we have a pilpul on terrorism vs. hate crime? How about condolences to the families of the dead and the injured instead of ridiculous and insensitive arguing? Call it whatever you want. IT IS MURDER. PERIOD. Have some respect.
