[COMMUNICATED] In anticipation of the acclaimed PCS Desktop and Network Support Course, PCS spoke to Izzy Kleinhendler to learn more about the field.
Q: Please tell us about the field of Networking and Desktop Support.
A: Every business today is dependent on IT infrastructure. This includes hardware such as computers, monitors, phones, routers and switches. A myriad of software programs are utilized and are critical to most businesses today. The role of the support technician is to set up and maintain these systems, and troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise.
Q: Please tell us about your current position.
A: I currently work for an MSP, an IT company. I take care of new setups and troubleshooting issues. New setups include things like configuring new servers, computers, networking equipment, email and user accounts. Troubleshooting includes hardware failures, operating systems, and software that are not working properly. A portion of the work is on-site, but I spend the majority of my time in the office offering remote support.
Q: How did this course prepare you?
A: The PCS course was tremendous for me. The course systematically and thoroughly taught me about computer hardware, operating systems, software, networking and servers. It gave me the solid foundation necessary for me to be successful in the industry. I was able to easily build and advance with the skills that I acquired at PCS.
Q: For whom would you recommend the IT field?
A: Everyone has experienced a moment when they sat down at a computer and it didn’t work like it was supposed to. Some people get frustrated and call for help. Others dig in and try to figure out what’s wrong and fix it. I would recommend the IT field to those who enjoy and have the patience to work through troubleshooting and resolving computer related issues. You will have the opportunity of helping others get up and running with their tech needs. There are also some high stress moments when a system is “down” and you are being relied upon to quickly get it back up. But overall, if you enjoy technology, IT is a very rewarding and enjoyable field.
