The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question: Greetings Mr Mayor,
I find that traffic gets backed up on spruce street due to the fact that it’s narrow. Now that a new synagogue been built, there are more people parking on both sides of the street which allows for only one car at a time to pass… especially in the morning with the school buses driving past.
There was a similar problem closer to Route nine by another new synagogue which was built. The solution was to only allow parking on one side of the street. That seems to have helped.
Can this please be replicated in the blocks next to the other two synagogues on Spruce?
Thanks
Response from Mayor Coles: We can definitely look into it. I will ask Traffic & Safety for their opinion and depending on their suggestions, we will consult with the neighborhood before finalizing any decision.
Thanks

Can you please also look into making no parking on the inside of any road curve?
The one side parking at the beginning of spruce was done after all the neighbors signed a petition to get it done
How about making sure shuls that are built have parking lots that are large enough to accommodate all the cars?!?!
Mr. Mayor
I hope that you read the comments down here.
I know this is unrelated but two urgent spots which need immediate attention
1. Chestnut approach to New Hamshire
it is nearly impossible to cross New Hamshire and its one of the few outlets available to get there, we really really need a traffic light there
2. Cross Street desperately needs sidewalks and lights all along.
there are at least 15-20 schools in that area and some nights I feel like I’m in a video game dodging student .
Gevalt! ( Yiddish for Yikes!)
Mark Levine cross street needs to be widened first for turning lanes!! do not give them ideas of sidewalks, as they will put them in, and then a year later rip them out to widen the street! it is so east to widen cross, as all the building are set very far back!
All of these problems come from the Planning Board NOT doing their job. The Planning Board listens to the builders traffic experts telling the Board that this new building will not affect the current traffic pattern.
Making streets parking on one side only may help traffic flow, but now where do we park the cars.
Hey Planning Board do the right thing for the people NOT the builders!!
