In response to the recent increase in threats to Jewish community centers and religious institutions nationwide, the Lakewood Police Department is allocating additional resources and police officers to patrol the many schools, synagogues and religious institutions in Lakewood, Police Chief Gregory Meyer tells TLS.
“Although there has not been any direct threat to Lakewood Township, we are still taking a proactive approach in ensuring the safety of our community,” the Chief said.
As a result, residents may say an increase in patrol vehicles at religious sites Township-wide.
“We will continue to monitor the threats nationwide, in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security and keep the community informed of any new developments,” Chief Meyer said.
“Remember, if you see something you know shouldn’t be there, or someone’s behavior that doesn’t seem quite right, say something. Because only you know what may look out of place. Informed, alert communities play a critical role in keeping our community safe.”
