With support from the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Lakewood Fire District and Chief of Department Mike D’Elia, 2nd Assistant Fire Chief Steve Mulholland arranged for a presentation on Solar Panel Awareness which was held this week. Trinity Solar Representatives Bill Condit and Kevin Kura delivered a wealth of knowledge to 37 members of the Lakewood Fire Department who were in attendance.
“With the growing popularity of solar panel installations, this training enabled our firefighters to gain a better understanding as to how these systems operate,” the Department said. “Most importantly, they are now better prepared to respond and handle incidents involving solar panels.”
“The Lakewood Fire Department has an ongoing training program and, as usual, these dedicated members of the Lakewood Fire Department took time away from their families to attend this valuable and informative presentation. The knowledge these individuals acquired will be disseminated throughout the Fire Department and enhance the safety of the firefighters as well as the Township of Lakewood community.”
Does solar panels make it more difficult for firefighters to battle a fire? Will they not enter a home for fear the roof will collapse?
Shmiel,
Rest assured, as far as solar panels themselves are considered, the FD will be able to fight fire and operate as usual. The Solar Panel Awareness class provided the FD with the necessary knowledge and know-how needed to safely work an incident where solar panels are present.
