A Lakewood toddler was hospitalized this afternoon after being struck by a vehicle backing out of a driveway, police say.
The two-year old girl was struck around 3 PM while reportedly walking behind a vehicle backing out of a driveway in a development off of Route 88.
Hatzolah treated the child before transporting her to Jersey Shore Universal Medical Center with a leg injury.
With Summer in full swing and children playing outside, drivers are urged to use extra caution while backing out of driveways, and driving through developments.

Why don’t people install back up cameras? What are they waiting for chas vestal on!! There’s a guy that comes down to your house and installs them for pretty cheap!!
Was this in ocean pointe?
Backup cameras don’t help for the kids so low. Try seeing a kid on a ziggle!
if you get a decent camera then you can see almost all the way to the ground behind the car/van. It also lets you see the sides if any kids are coming.
WHY DOESENT HATZOLH and other organazation publicize the need fro back up cameras?
1.lets get a letter signed by all rabonnim and roshe yeshivos urging the oilam to install back up cameras
2. lets get a gvir to step fwd and subsidize the costs
Developments should be built like coventry, with the parking spots in the street and the side walks are clear and safe.
It’s not that expensive, you can have a good camera installed for $180!
People exploiting an accident, and instilling fear to market cameras and make money.
how about we just take it easy ………………………………………………..and start looking before we enter a car and being more observant while driving
don’t drive and talk on cell phone
besides backup cameras how about back into your parking spoy| driveway so that when youre going out youll have a clear view?
Not driver’s responsibility to have back-up cam.
All drivers’ responsibility to drive safely and conscientiously.
But it’s the PARENT’s/ CAREGIVER’s responsibility to watch children. 2 year old shouldn’t be behind a moving car.
I actually have a back-up cam…. but just saying. Don’t know why everyone making it sound like it’s the driver’s fault for not having back-up cam.
No body saying anyone is at fault… Just giving a good idea to prevent anything worse chas veshalom!
