CSE: “Moments ago we received devastating news: the New York State Court of Appeals has rejected the appeal for a stay.
(See earlier report.)
“At this time the only remaining hope is that during this evening’s scheduled conference call, Mr. Stephen Mendelsohn will accept the settlement offer of free burial arrangements and an increased $20,000 to be donated to the charity of his choice in Martin’s memory.
“Our greatest weapon is always the power of Tefillah.
Please take a moment and recite a kapitel tehillim and beseech Hakodosh Boruch Hu that Mr. Stephen Mendelsohn will somehow find it in his heart to accept the settlement and allow his brother, Mordechai ben Reuven, to come to Kever Yisroel.”

Sometimes it seems money is the greatest weapon to satisfy, help with grief, or just to seal a deal. Show your real emunah! Show real bitachon! Just daven!
In the event that the large amount of money raised is not taken, it would be very appropriate to it donate to Poile Tzedek – the shul in New Brunswick that had a fire where all the Sifrei Torah were burnt.
Hey Shmuel
The money raised was to cover the significant legal fees and court fees in the fight for this man to have a kevuras Yisroel. Losing the case was definitely not the outcome anyone who donated obviously wished for but it’s not like there weren’t expenses incurred here. Just because we donated it doesn’t give us a right to ask for our money back nor does it entitle us to direct where any remaining funds should go. Although I am not involved in this case I’m sure the money raised was not enough to cover the costs.
