PHOTOS: LPD Dispatchers move to OEM as Headquarters is Expanded; OEM to Soon Serve as Emergency Dispatch Center for Lakewood

oem 1The Lakewood Police Dispatchers this week temporarily moved their headquarters – and permanently some systems – to the Office of Emergency Management building as their headquarters gets renovated, Police Chief Rob Lawson says.

The current dispatch room, located within the Police Headquarters at the Municipal Building, is being expanded to host additional dispatchers, as well as upgraded systems for more efficient services, the Chief says.

Additionally, the OEM building – located on Pine Street, and which is home to EMS and Lakewood First Aid – is also getting a makeover.

oem 3The Chief tells TLS the building will soon have the capabilities to serve as a centralized emergency dispatch center in the event of a large-scale emergency – such as Hurricane Sandy.

In the event of such an emergency, says the Chief, additional police dispatchers would be added to that center, joining other emergency services dispatchers and personnel.

oem 1Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein, who also serves as the Police Commissioners and Emergency Services Liaison, has been very involved with the planning process of the new center, which is expected to expected to expedite services and provide more coordination between the various emergency agencies in Lakewood.

The renovations are expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
