It appears the new Lakewood Shuttle – or the “L” – is picking up steam, with its buses filled to capacity during peak times within the first week of service.
“While we are not able to gather precise numbers during this initial period with no fare collection, our drivers are reporting that the buses are filling up to capacity during peak times and we are seeing regular usage even in the non-peak hours,” Lakewood’s Economic Development Director Steven Reinman tells TLS.
Reinman aslo says the reports from users are also extremely positive, with many ages and types of users represented in the ridership that is growing steadily. Many have also offered their opinions and advice.
“Already, we have a flow of suggestions and requests for route expansion into areas we are not yet addressing,” says Reinman. ”
As this service takes root, the Township will be looking at ways in which we can enhance the service and options for rapid expansion, Reinman says.
Though it’s premature to project timing for those enhancements and to gauge success of the service, Reinman says, “the indicators, with less than a week of operating experience, are exciting and gratifying as initial confirmation of the great need for mass transit and the large target market of users.”

will the bus stop if you wave it down on the route?
This is a great idea. With Hashem’s help this will succeed and be a great beenfit to all of lakewood.
Plenty of riders now. However, once the fare starts to be collected…….
Will the fares keep going up once they start charging like the MTA & tolls . THANX to all that made this great thing happen!
I am a senior citizen and would love to use the bus. If I go on on Hope Chapel and 14 where do I get off to go into town, on Clifton and 2nd ? Also could the bus stop on Hope Chapel and South Lake ? The Country Place is completely misplaced on the map. What is the 2nd map going to Cedarbridge Avenue ? Is this connected to the bus starting at Westgate ? Quiet confusing for us old folks. Thank you.
What about Saturday bus service?
