PHOTOS: A teen was seriously injured this afternoon when his sled crashed into a tree on a Lakewood hill, officials confirm to TLS.
The approximately 15-year-old boy was sledding on one of the steep hills at the Avenue of the Estates sledding area when he crashed into a tree at the bottom of the hill, official says.
Lakewood EMS and Lakewood First Aid responded to the scene, and found the patient in and out of consciousness, sources say.
Emergency personnel had to drive an SUV through a back trail to pick up the patient and transport him to the waiting ambulance. Officials say the same trail was used by the emergency responders during a recent training, which proved to be crucial in getting this patient quicker emergency care.
The patient was transported to Jersey Shore Medical University Center in stable condition.
Police shut the area following the incident, though it’s unclear if was temporarily or permanently.

(corrected text) The police said it’s permanent. Let’s hope not. The fellow had gone down the BACK slope which is full of trees! Seems silly to shut it down because someone did something very irresponsible….
That was my friend and he was not the only one going down that side if you were there watching you would know
