Poor fox was trying to do Shiluach Hakein (or Hakan if you prefer).
He was successful in sending the mother away..until they came back!

It looks to me like the Fox succeeded in snatching away the eggs. Am I wrong?
This Fox definitely did not intend to simply egg on the Geese; he’s not just a run of the mill quack; he wanted those eggs.

If the goose would have stayed on the eggs, the fox wouldn’t have gotten them. That’s why they’re called silly geese. There were two geese. They could have taken turns sitting on the eggs.
