Lakewood Resident Says His Uber Driver Drove Off with His $1,000 Electric Scooter, and the Company is Stonewalling him and Tesla

A Lakewood resident tells TLS he is out of a $1,000 electric scooter, thanks to an Uber driver who drove off with it – and the company just doesn’t care.

The Lakewood resident, Shmuel, says Tesla ordered an Uber for him last Thursday because he was going to pick up a vehicle at the dealership.

When he hopped into the Uber, Shmuel says the driver refused to allow him to bring the Unagi scooter in the back seat, and made him put it into the trunk.

When he arrived at the Tesla dealership, he walked out of the car and began walking to the trunk to retrieve his scooter, but the driver drove off.

“He drove off before I can get to the trunk,” Shmuel said.

Shmuel says he tried contacting Uber, provided all the information he had, but to no avail.

No matter how many times I try reaching out, I just keep getting stonewalled,” Shmuel said. “I feel like my possessions are completely worthless to them.”

Shmuel also reached out to Tesla, as they were the ones who ordered the Uber.

They responded with the following:

“Hi Shmuel,

I have called the Uber driver again and have still not received an answer. Below is all of the information that we have from your ride. We have contacted all of the sources that we can.”

Below is the information they sent him regarding his ride:

Below is also a conversation Shmuel had with Tesla:

Shmuel says he just hopes this will get to the right people, and the driver will do the right thing and return it.

  1. Here’s what I did when left phone in Uber by mistake. I contacted the driver by signing into my Uber account on computer. When she didn’t answer, her voice mail said her number so I had it and tried many times and left messages. When that didn’t work I texted her through the computer as well and threatened to File a police report. That got her to respond and I stayed on top of it all day until she actually returned it. Really hope you get it back! Maybe contact police and lcsw. Good luck and please keep us posted!

  2. Ditto to Ruvy. Why not make a police report right away. They can track the guy down. Should have done that immediately while they could still catch him red handed.

  3. I once purchased a pack of 37 freeze pops in Walmart (Plattsburgh NY) and one of them was not filled all the way to the top! TLS, care to publish the full story?

  4. Very nice of Tesla to pay for an Uber; My wife drove me to pick up my Tesla which was on a short November Friday; as soon as we arrived at Tesla of Princeton my wife threw me out of her SUV in the freezing cold and zoomed off; I didn’t want to bother them for Ubers as I was glad to get mine in just 5 months and with the old price and NJ rebate; and also a few modern orthodox yiddin wearing yarmuka’s work at Tesla of Princeton.
Everything was taken care of online before pick up, all I had to do was show ID ; in the freezing cold a Jewish Boy there set my smart phone to it showed me the basics and I was off with it barely making it to Lakewood as I wasn’t used to driving that powerful monster. Than I visited my kids of which my grandchildren crowded in to it with their shoes digging into the front seats (damaging the passenger seat, zecher l’churban) thus playing games and watching movies in it.
Uber is very nice and supportive to their drivers because of the driver shortage and they are sort of a monopoly as well.
Good Luck with your new Tesla.
