Howell Police Shut Down Mishkan Yosef Kids Prize Distribution; Police Deny Parents’ and Organizers’ Reports [PHOTOS]

The Mishkan Yosef prize distribution on Rt. 9 in Howell has been shut down by Howell Police moments ago.

Hundreds of children gathered to collect their prizes for collecting over Purim. However, the overflow traffic ended up spilling onto Route 9, causing delays in the area.

Parents tell TLS police shut down the operation and told the organizers to mail the prizes instead.

UPDATE: Following our report, Police claimed the event was never shut down.

Dozens of parents and organizers though say that is false – the event was shut down, but police may have reopened it afterwards so as not to look bad.

“That’s a lie, it was shut down. Every car that came, a cop was screaming cancelled,” a parent on scene said.

  1. The police are right. If you want to have a large crowd then make sure you have a location large enough to handle it without causing traffic. You probably need a permit as well.

  2. the township should have proactively allowed use of a football field or similar to allow the children to have an enjoyable and safe event

  3. It’s a perfect publicity promotion for mishkan Yosef collection. We should have our madrichim advise us if our children should be making 35% or more profit for collecting for nitzrochim. These are 5th graders, 4th or any grade.

  4. comon @TLS What’s wrong with shutting it down if it’s causing a safety hazard, what do you value more yours or someone else life or a Segway??

  5. Like, for real, they couldn’t find any place better to give out prizes than Rte 9 ?
    Pine Park is empty.
Blue Claws Parking lot is empty.
The parking lot next to Climb Zone in Howell is empty, after that theater business shut down.
    Unreal.

  6. There was no traffic or safety issues other than congestion and delays on the 9. Traffic is ok when the police department has check points but not for an organization.

Everything is ok when it fits into your ideals. I guess the Howell police department hasn’t listened to our previous attorney general and learn our to accept others (in simple English).

  7. Learn from this year and plan for next year, Biezrat Hashem, to hold this venue in some other location that won’t impede traffic flow. File this plan for 5783!!!
