BREAKING: Man Fatally Struck by NJ Transit Bus in Lakewood [VIDEO]

A man was struck and killed by a NJ Transit bus in Lakewood this evening, police confirm to TLS.

Surveillance video obtained by TLS shows the man walking eastbound on the sidewalk of Route 88 shortly before 10:00 PM when a bus struck him while making a left turn into the terminal.

Emergency personnel arrived and found the victim in a pool of blood. He was transported by EMS to MMCSC where he was pronounced deceased.

The bus driver, apparently unaware he ran over the pedestrian, reportedly left the scene. The bus was located in another township a short time later.

An investigation is underway by local, County and State authorities.

  1. NJ Transit should move the terminal to the Swarthmore area where there is enough room for the buses along with the passengers and less pedestrian traffic in general there is no longer a need nor is there a justification to maintain the historic bus station on this downtown block where it services less passengers and causes more difficulty to the neighbors

    • The Bus Station is in the Center of the town. How will anyone that doesn’t have a car get to the bus if its all the way out on Swarthmore? you make no sense, the busses are needed in the town for transport to get out. The busses run on the major state roads and town route 9, It is in a perfect spot. You would just be happy if they mowed down all of the historic buildings and made more apartment complexes and oh yes More Traffic you can be sitting in.

    • Exactly. They could keep the stop there but move the station elsewhere. Even the post office around the corner understood that.

My condolences to the family of the deceased. What a tragic end.
