UPDATE: Substitutes Desperately Needed in Lakewood’s Boys and Girls Mosdos for Tuesday

[UPDATE BELOW]

Last night, TLS announced that there was a major shortage in substitutes due to many Rebbeim and teachers out with the flu.

Dozens of potential subs responded, and B”H many classes were able to continue today uninterrupted.

However, Roshei Mosdos say that as of now, many classes will not have Rabbeim and teachers for tomorrow, Monday, December 27.

If you can sub a class for either Limudei Kodesh or general studies, please text 929-277-8133 with the following information:

1) Subjects you’re available for – either Limudei Kodesh or General Studies.

2) If you’re available for Yeshiva or girls school.

3) Which grades you’re available for.

The information will be forwarded to the Yeshivas/Schools in need of that grade.

UPDATE Monday 2:30 PM: Over 20 substitutes were placed today around Lakewood, Tizku L’mitzvos!

Many are still needed for Tuesday, for both boys and girls schools.

Please text 929-277-8133.

  1. In the past, I’ve ordered groceries online from some of the major grocery chains. Sometimes they do not have a particular product that I have ordered and they will substitute that item with a similar item, much to my chagrin – which is why they give the buyer an option to leave a message that he does not want any substitutes for a particular item, if that item is not in stock. Unfortunately, sometimes the buyer’s message goes unheeded, and he gets the substitute he did not want. Bottom line: I refuse to offer my services as a substitute teacher unless the teacher and the students are okay with that – and they give permission for substitutes to be used in place of the teacher.

      • My doctor is the one that told me to stop taking my meds. So I asked him if I could substitute my meds with some other medicine – something less potent – and he told me he doesn’t recommend substitutes. So I am just sticking with pomegranate juice – which sadly causes me shehecheyanu problems on Rosh Hashana. But of course I can always rely on my trusty star fruit to solve that problem.

  2. How about helping playgroup moros find subs?
I’m sick but right now I will either do playgroup myself or close down and inconvenience 10 parents!

  3. 2yr old Morah-
Please rather cancel than work while your sick and infect these children. Parents should be able to understand the situation. My baby’s babysitter cancelled and it’s understandable. This is not a regular situation. Iyh it will pass. Feel good!!

  4. To “substitute authorization”
That is seriously the most ignorant, ridiculous comment I ever read! Whenever your child’s teacher is absent they have a sub. As a sub for many years, I can tell you that not all subs are created equal and I promise you one thing – when school gets a sub they DO NOT call all parents first to check that they’re all ok with the chosen sub!

  5. If there are teachers are out I would assume many students are out too. Maybe combine the classes you don’t want to bend backwards trying to find a sub only to have a quarter of the class show up!

  6. To all our anti-maskers:
Masks helped against Covid, but definitely not 100%
Masks, if worn, are really very effective against the flu and ordinary colds.
With all the flu going around Lakewood, maybe it should be considered.

  7. I hope it doesn’t become necessary but in case the matzav detoriates that closing yeshivas will save lives, then I guess there won’t be a problem.

    • my daughter and her friend subbed a younger grade for a few hours and it was the highlight of her day. There are many high school girls who would love to do it instead of sitting in class themselves. I don’t know why you got offended by a suggestion.

  8. I would like to make some suggestions. Consuming a lot of sugar lowers a person’s immune system. Thus, when schools/teachers give out candy, soda, etc, as rewards they are creating more chances of children getting sick. I suggest that schools give something else out instead. In addition when a Rebbe/Morah uses their bare hands to give out candy for getting a question right, etc. they are spreading germs, which can lead to illness in the children. Make sure that your schools’ bathrooms have soap and paper towels. It is probably too much to ask to have children wash their hands with soap and water before they eat lunch or snacks – but they should! Of course, it is all up to Hashem, but we need to do our hishtadlus. (Of course, all the above applies to parents at home with their children.)

  9. I have been a playgroup morah for many many years. I can tell the difference between the children that I take care of. the children who come to playgroup/babysitters from a young age don’t get as sick as children who only came to play group at the age of 2 the kids who were exposed to germs at a earlier age got sick less often then the kids who were not exposed at a young age and start going to playgroup starting only at the age of 2.
I’m over all very clean at my playgroup I have hand sanitizer on every window ledge including my table in between children going to use the bathroom I sanitize it with sanitizing spray I try to do my best no matter what kids/adults will get sick no matter how clean, let alone I tried wearing a mask.
No school is calling or notifying the parents that there is going to be a sub for the day or week (that’s not the case with playgroups) this year yes has been ever hard for many reasons for trying to find subs

  10. I am beginning to wonder if maybe there is a connection of some people catching this new flu, maybe it is a little bit connected to that demonstration of the large group of boys that threw eggs and smashed the video camera.
I am not saying that if the son was throwing eggs so the father became ill.
I mean something else. We are one community. We are responsible for our brothers our friends. We have to try our best to minimize fighting. We have to try our best to minimize damages that are being caused to another person. Kol Yisroel Areivim one to another. If we sit back and just watch, maybe that is not such a good idea. Please do the research, you will see that I am right, By the Second Churban there were about 4 million people learning Torah in the Kollelim and in the Bais Medrash, they were learning very well, they spent many many hours learning. But Hashem was not happy and then came the Churban. The fighting amongst us, I think this is the problem.

  11. What about subs for legal licensed Daycare? In order to remain open and allow parents to learn/work we have to keep ratios. All Daycares need subs desperately even before the flu hit, and we can’t afford $30 an hr.

  12. Mm that is so not true. Some of my kids went out starting at 6 weeks and others not until 3. I don’t find the ones that started young to have a stronger immune system at all!

  13. To Huh
My daughter and her classmate were asked to sub a younger grade for a few hours and they loved it. There are many high school girls who would be happy to help out rather than sit in class one day. I don’t know why you got so offended from a suggestion.

  14. To b..s read exactly what I wrote I didn’t say they don’t get sick at all. I never said all kids I said a lot of time. That would be an understatement…

  15. @The Administratrator
Legal licensed daycare can’t afford 30.00 an hour?? The 1,500 a month per child from CHS doesn’t allow you to afford 30.00 an hour? please take your crocodile tears elsewhere..
