BREAKING: Jackson Township Council To Vote On Repealing Dorm, Yeshiva Ban | G. Sonnenfeld

The agenda for the Jackson Township Council meeting to be held Tuesday shows a vote on resolutions to repeal ordinances banning dormitories and yeshivas in the township.

Jackson Township is currently being sued in court over both ordinances, with claimants alleging that they are discriminatory against Orthodox Jews.

The surprising news comes just days after Council President Barry Calogero announced his resignation from the position. It is unclear whether he held up a vote to repeal the ordinances while he was council president.

  1. This was expected ..cant wait to see justice served…iyh more victories to come ..Reina is going to be thrown out of office

  2. All the other towns surrounding Lakewood should see what happened in Jackson regarding the bans as a WARNING AND WAKE UP CALL!
The Orthodox will be moving in indefinitely. I would suggest each town get a RLUIPA lawyer and then work with the Orthodox when they apply for a dorm, yeshiva, or whatever else. It is not worth it to have the town get sued for violating these laws, the accompanying negative media circus and blacklisted for being anti-Semitic and incur heavy fines. Its better to have some peace of mind. I am sure most of the Orthodox moving into surrounding communities do not want a Lakewood 2.0 either!

  3. I live in one of the surrounding towns – and I just want our residents to have some peace of mind and me too. Why create community divide and tension? Change is inevitable. The frum community and non-Jews must find a way to coexist.
