From Telfies to Keeping Shabbos; The Mitzvah Gang marks 4 months with a Yaakov Shwekey Kumzitz (VIDEO & PHOTOS)

It’s 2019, and the struggles our teens face today are more difficult and challenging than ever before.

Two young teens, Asher Toledano and Yehuda Augenboum, were going through their challenges and started what was meant to be a support group for teens trying to do mitzvos – Mitzva Gang.

Mitzva Gang started by encouraging teens from all over the world to post Telfies (Teffilin selfies) on social media sites which encouraged both themselves and others to put on teffilin.

Mitzva Gang quickly grew, and a third teen, Menachem Dubin joined the Mitzva Gang. Menachem initiated a weekly raffle for those that kept shabbos.

“The Mitzva Gang shabbos program quickly reached teens all over the globe, and many teens that ordinarily would not keep Shabbos, began keeping Shabbos because of it,” says a member.

Realizing the influence that the Mitzvah Gang has, the trio got different influential figures to start sending messages of encouragement and Divrei Chizzuk to the network of Mitzva Gang members.

Mitzva Gang is currently at its four month mark.

To celebrate the fact that so many teens have started to grow and change their lives, Yaakov Shwekey, who is very involved in the Mitzva Gang, graciously spent a night of inspiration with the boys.

The night, Wednesday, was hosted at the home of Joey Dayan, and was kicked off with dinner by Mike’s Chicken. The night continued with a beautiful Kumzitz and singing with Yaakov Shweky.

“We also had the great privilege of having Harav Hagaon Reb Shlomo Diamond Shlita give chizuk to the boys, followed by a Q and A session,” says a coordinator.

The memorable night came to a close with beautiful Mitzva Gang merchandise – by the Custom Shoppe – being given out to all. Special customized hoodies were given out to boys that kept Shabbos for the past four weeks.

  1. Beautiful story! But the article fails to mention one important detail: these 3 teens who started mitzvah gang are bochurim in the holy Yeshiva of Mesivta Of Eatontown!!

  2. MOE and the holy rabbeim of MOE are really onto something big
every boy that feels joy in kiyum hamitzvah
    thats what its all about
Speak to the Holy Reb Sender
all he says is “HAMOAR SHEBOH MACHZIRO LIMUTAV”

so next time you see a boy in shul and even if he is not wearing a hat
you can give him hagbah or an aliya

remember Holy reb Senders motto “the light of torah the joy the spark will bring him back”
