Despite Jackson police calling it an ‘unsubstantiated’ threat, a social media post from a student saying he would commit a shootout similar to that in Florida, has students and parents terrified.
After rumors circulated on social media, police released the following statements:
This evening, the Jackson Police Department was contacted by numerous residents pertaining to unsubstantiated social media rumors being circulated alleging that a student had a list of students that he may wish to harm. That rumor was accompanied by an alleged comment regarding a shooting in or at school.
Jackson Police Officers have been able to identify the student allegedly involved in this incident and have investigated further. That follow up has determined at this time that these rumors are unsubstantiated and are not credible. There is no known credible threat regarding any of the township schools at this time and contrary to any rumors being circulated, the department does not have any information that would support students staying home tomorrow.
Our officers regularly conduct patrols on school grounds and in the surrounding areas and as already begun in the aftermath of the incident in Florida, there will be increased patrols in the following days as any rumors or allegations are followed up on and investigated.

It won’t be a credible thread until the student is actually in school with a gun in hand… that’s what happened to the Florida shooting. The FBI got a tip a few months ago!!!
