VIDEO: Potholes leaving Lakewood drivers with Thousands of dollars in damages; Worst stretch is along Route 9

It’s one thing to have your drink spill in your car because of the bumpy roads, but it’s another thing to have to dish out thousands of dollars to fix your vehicle damaged from a pothole.

Multiple residents are reporting damage to their vehicles caused by potholes around town -including busted tires, broken tire rims, and even broken axle and control arms. These damages range anywhere from $100 to $1,000 plus.

The area said to currently be the worst, is the Route 9 stretch between Prospect Street and Cross Street.

Lakewood township is vigorously working to fill the potholes with their famous ‘pothole killer’, however Route 9 is a State highway.

Sruly Gelbman, a Chaveirim member and owner of ‘Tires On Wheels’ tells TLS, he has received over 35 calls this week alone, and mostly from that stretch on Route 9.

“These potholes can cause severe damage that you may not be able to tell immediately – such as alignments getting messed up, control arms getting loose and more,” Gelbman said.

Another member added, “the fact that the speed limit on Route 9 is significantly higher than most ordinary roads, causes the pothole’s impact to be much greater.”

One resident was quoted as saying, “if the State doesn’t come out and fix these potholes, people will continue to lose thousands of dollars daily.”

  1. TIP: Slow down, put your cell phones down and look where you are going.
If you see a puddle in the road you can bet there is a hole there.

  2. Is it like against the law to fill the potholes on Route 9 even though it’s a State Highway? Can we just send the State the Bill?? It takes the State forever to do anything.

  3. THE STATE DOESN’T CARE AND DOES NOT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING INVOLVING LAKEWOOD UNLESS ITS A CHECK WRITTEN OUT TO THEM. ITS BEEN THIS WAY FOR A WHILE AND IT AINT CHANGING ANYTIME SOON SO GET USED TO IT!

  4. just wanted to say I hit a pothole on cedarbridge right before airport road coming in to lakewood… caused 570dollars of damage to replace two tires that were brand new on my car. called the county risk management department to file a claim, and they told me that if nobody reported the pothole before me, they will NOT pay out. that’s absolutely ridiculous! we’ll see, since now it seems my axle may be bent!!!

  5. Just found out whom to contact. If your car was damaged on state road such as Cedarbridge, township can’t help. Need to call 7329292109.

  6. My tire was also damaged on cedar bridge Tuesday evening, wasn’t on my phone just driving and bang there goes my tire, thanks for all the info here to file a claim. Has anyone had any luck with it?

  7. Just saying and John Smith; pretty arrogant to accuse drivers of being responsible for the road conditions, and arbitrarily assuming that their distracted. Have you driven the stretch of road? Can they all be avoided? The answer is “no”, so please keep your arrogance to yourself.
