BREAKING VIDEOS: Blaze rips through home at Lakewood Toms River border

[VIDEO BELOW] A fire ripped through a home at the Lakewood Toms River Border this morningĀ

The fire broke out shortly after 11:00 AM on Fiddlers Run.

Toms River Police spokesman Ralph Stocco tells TLS they were unable yet to make entry to the home due to the fact that the roof collapsed.

People were reportedly inside the home when the fire broke out, but officials have not yet released further details.

Developing story.

  1. For a fire that was right on the border, how come the LFD was one of the last departments called for aid? The coastal departments of toms river including island heights (over 20min away) were called but LFD was completely last… not too efficient or safe sounding to me.

  2. To Insane: Lakewood was requested as a standby company for Station 30. The fire coordinator is well aware of what they need and time of day. Toms River will always use intown companies first as we do in lakewood but when it comes to standbys they put an engine or 2 at firehouses that are close to the scene just in case they are needed to run calls. LFD will go where ever they are needed but it is up to the Fire Coordinators discretion to bring them into town if they need it.

Departments work by jurisdiction. Local first due companies will respond to the fire first, then further companies. Mutual aid from surrounding towns respond in a supporting roll as needed. It’s not always about who is geographically closer to the incident. Rest assured, the local response protocol has you covered safely. Before Lakewood (and other mutual aid) is hit out there is an adequate initial response from the local department. Keep in mind, Lakewood (or any Dept requested for mutual aid) still needs to be available to cover it’s own and will send limited aid as needed.
