As first reported by TLS last night, a local Cheder suffered a tremendous blow with the theft of their sole Sefer Torah (Torah Scroll) over Shabbos.
Immediately upon learning of this travesty, we decided to do what we can in hopes of bringing about the return of this holy object.
Our team jumped in, and put together a reward of $2,600 for the return of the Sefer Torah, or information leading to the return – no questions asked.
The Sefer Torah can be returned to the school building, or be brought to Police Headquarters, located at 231 3rd Street, Lakewood.
Information can be called in to the LPD at 732-363-0200, as well as to LCSW at 732-367-1212.
I hope it’s returned בקרוב.
If a Shul gets a Sefer Torah safe it must always be large enough to hold 3 or 4 seforim and be very very heavy and be totally unmovable.
These cheap one Sefer Torah Safelach are the worst thing, your better off keeping the Sefer Torah in an unlocked wooden aron hakodesh (cabinet). 99% of thieves would not touch a Sefer Torah (the silver maybe) . The thieves look for quick desperate CASH which is usually for drugs or they will grab a whole locked movable safe.
Once the safe is cracked open I believe that the Sefer will be returned for the reward money.
