Orthodox Jewish residents in Toms River help TRPD cover cost of Holiday Toy Drive in just 8 hours

toms river pd trpd tlsThe Toms River Police Department’s 2016 holiday Toy Drive for sick children was fully covered in about eight hours with the assistance of the Jewish residents of Toms River, TLS has learned.

Each year, the Department raised funds to distribute dozens of toys to children at the Children’s Specialized Hospital, as well as at the Community Medical Center Adolescent Unit. Many of these children will not be home for the Holiday due to their serious medical situations.

Upon learning that the campaign still needed about $2,000 to cover the costs, a group of Jewish residents got together and immediately raised all the remaining funds needed for the project.

Toms River Police Department Spokesman Ralph Stocco confirms to TLS they “did gather $2,000 very quickly, and in fact, the amount will probably be even higher from them once we are done.” “They are also collecting Hanukah toys as well as the money,” Stocco said.

Stocco says other citizens, businesses, and police officers have contributed a lot of money and toys too.

“We will be delivering Christmas and Hanukah toys to Children’s Specialized Hospital and Community Medical Center on December 21st. We will meet and play with these special children that will be in the hospital during the holidays, and we hope to bring joy and ease the financial burden on these families that sometimes are struggling.”
