  1. The driver of the bus should have certainly pulled closer to the curb instead of stopping in middle of the street. The other driver is certainly wrong as well.

  2. Why wasn’t the Bus in the far right lane if he was doing a drop-off??? The driver is not at fault here, as he most likely did not see the lights flashing on the top back of the bus!

  3. to # 1 HOW is the bus driver responsible????????? IT IS ILLEGAL TO PASS ON THE RIGHT/SHOULDER even if the bus was turning, which it wasnt.

  4. To all previous commentators… The right side of the bus is the shoulder, NOT a separate lane. Bus driver does not need to pull into the shoulder to drop someone off; he has no reason to expect someone to pass him on a shoulder

  5. Right lane a a shoulder not a drive Kane, look closer and you’ll see he red pickup swerve around the bus to cut him off, after the bus was fully stopped and the light blinking. Cops should find the vehicle and ticket him.

  6. Doesn’t anyone read the article? Its a two lane road, one in each direction. That pickup truck went around the bus and drove on the shoulder.

  7. @Horrified, This is a one lane road.
The driver in the red vehicle passed the bus on the shoulder, and almost killed a boy in the process.

Yes, of course the bus driver should be more careful to drop kids off by the curb, to avoid these crazy drivers who pass on the right shoulder.

  8. I hope the police find the driver who went around the bus. He should get a ticket for reckless driving, passing a bus, driving on the shoulder etc.

  9. With the tree in the way and the limited scope of the camera you can’t see how long the bus had the yellow lights flashing before it stopped and let the student off the bus. Looks like the driver of the truck was caught off guard and moved to the right to avoid a collision. You can see by the transfer of weight that he was heavily on the brakes. If he was passing on the right he would have just kept going and not have stopped. Also was the student standing up at the door before the bus stopped because he was coming off the bus almost as soon as the doors were opened.

  10. Look at the weight transfer on the bus, it stopped quickly. Also the truck driver was gesturing with his hands as if the lights were turned on at the last minute. Anyway you look at it though the truck driver should have had control of his vehicle and have been able to stop in a safe manner without having to go around the bus.

  11. This was on County Line Rd. Double yellow line and a white solid line with shoulder to the right. Since when does a bus have to pull into a shoulder to do a drop off??? If drivers would be more vigilant of the road, be alert and follow the rules these things wouldn’t happen

  12. If u look more closely, driver of the red pickup was not right behind bus. Took him a few seconds to get there. Then he passed the bus. He was clearly at fault.
On a separate note, is that why all of lakewood is terrible drivers? Law is you must be far enough from vehicle in front of you that if he were to short stop, you can safely come to a stop. So even if the bus stopped suddenly, pickup should’ve been able to come to a complete stop. He’s at fault either way you slice it

  13. If you look you will see there is a school across the street there is a strong possibility the driver assumed the school bus was going to make the left turn into the school and did what most people would do and pass the car that is waiting to make a left turn yes on the right side or on the shoulder

  14. Every driver is responsible for his actions when getting behind the wheel. Rules are rules not for some but for every driver.
