Incidents Involving Alleged Scammer in Lakewood Pouring in

scam alertAfter publishing a report about an alleged scammer going around Lakewood, TLS has received reports of numerous incidents involving the same individual – as evident by the photos submitted to us.

The man on numerous occasions allegedly promised to pay back money he ‘borrowed’ for emergency assistance under various circumstances, but never made those promised payments. These incidents have been occurring over the past several months.

Below is another story submitted yesterday to TLS:

“He goes by the name of ‘Carl.’ He came over to me at 7/11 about two months ago and asked me if he can borrow some money for a cab home claiming that he’s stuck in Lakewood because his wife is sick and dying in the hospital. He also told me that he is a veteran and fought to serve our country. So I gave him some money. The next day he came over to me again apologizing to me telling me what a crazy night he had because the insurance doesn’t cover some of the meds that she so desperately needs to live, and he asked me for about $150 swearing over his sick wife’s life that he’ll pay me back every penny as soon as his pension or whatever other government checks he gets….. Then, a couple days later, he makes up a time to meet me and he’ll bring me the money.

“When he showed up, he starts crying bitter tears how she needs more meds and I’m his life saver. Basically, I started getting a little suspicious and I told him I can’t lend him anymore. But then he comes again crying bitter tears that the doctors say she’s not going to make it through the night and he doesn’t know what to do with himself he can’t live without her….Basically, then his wife passed and he’s sitting in my car balling like a baby faking a heart attack begging me for all he’s got that he needs more money for the funeral. He then signed an “I owe you letter”…. He also claimed his son is a Sergeant with the Toms River Police Department.

When the officers were talking to him, I said isn’t Ur son a Sergeant in Toms River? To which he said “I have no idea what you’re talking about..”

Another letter submitted to TLS stated the same man was seen around Bais Shalom.

“I had seen him harassing Yungerleit in Bais Sholom Parking lot a few weeks ago, and then again the next week. So I took a picture of him.”

  2. Is this the same guy who stands outside bais shalom and says he needs money for rent ? White guy between 40 and 50 ? If TLS has pictures then why are we getting a follow up article without a picture?

  3. I don’t understand what the crime is. He asks for money and you give it to him. He doesn’t rob you, he doesn’t threaten you. While its horrible and dishonest, just tell him no and he wont bother you. Whats the problem?

  4. to # 9, what is wrong u ask?! to beg people for money and give ur number to him and tell him u will pay him back?? oh please, thats not ok at all! its one thing to beg for charity, but another thing to ask to borrow money, and never pay it back…
