Lakewood Police Officer and Local PBA President Gary Przewoznik Retires after 25 Years of Service

gary pLakewood Police Officer and PBA Local 71 President Gary Przewoznik will retire today during at a “walk-out” ceremony at Police Headquarters after 25 years of service.

gary 2Officer Przewoznik, known as an outstanding member of the police force, was born and raised in Lakewood. Throughout his career he has served as Lakewood Police Benevolent Association 71s Vice President and more recently as its President. While serving on its board, he was faced with some difficult times to overcome, and help others overcome, losing coworkers William “Nichie” Preslar and Christopher Matlosz.

During his tenure he wanted to make sure that as township Police Officers, they not only worked for the community but with the community.

gary 3With the help of his executive board he instituted events which were manned by Lakewood Police Officers and their families who volunteered their own time. Events included “Paint the Town”, which painted over gang graffiti, Pasta Dinners for the Senior Community, Thanksgiving Dinners for the needy, Open Air Soup Kitchens and Winter Coat Drives, and Toy Drives for the holidays. It was his goal that these events would help establish a positive relationship between the police and area residents.

He was also instrumental in organizing charity sporting events between the Lakewood PBA and the Lakewood Teacher’s Association, which helped raise money for their PTO programs. Most recently, he had worked with the Caregiver’s of Central Jersey in numerous fundraisers, helping to raise money for their nonprofit organization.

PBA-Thanksgiving-Dinner-Distribution-pic3Officer Przewoznik was also instrumental in getting the Lakewood PBA Local 71s Bus donated by Mark Waterhouse from Classic Tours. The PBA bus is used for charity use and emergency situations and has been used extensively for local events, such as the recent Lakewood Night Out Against Crime and July 4th Fireworks. Officer Przewoznik was asked by the State Police to bring the bus to the Superbowl, where it was used to feed the hundreds of law enforcement officers from throughout the country brought in to protect the facility. He also worked in Seaside Heights for over a month after Hurricane Sandy feeding the first responders.

4“Officer Przewoznik wishes there was time to do more, but knows that he put his heart into all he did,” says a coworker. “He still plans on helping the PBA in the future, but will do so as a private citizen.”

The ceremony today will includes some speeches and a ceremonial convoy of police vehicles, with lights and sirens on, transporting Officer Przewoznik as he leaves headquarters for the last time as a police officer.

PBA-Thanksgiving-Dinner-Distribution-pic2TLS would like to thank Officer Przewoznik for his many years of dedicated service to the community.
