VIDEO SUVEILLANCE: Brazen Daytime Pushkah Thief Arrested; Possibly Connected to Other Pushkah Thefts

Snapshot Front Door -tlsVIDEO SURVEILLANCE: A brazen Pushkah thief was arrested Monday after caught stealing a Pushkah (charity box) from a downtown business.

The thief brazenly walked into the BP Graphics copy center shortly before noon and acted as if he was attempting to place an order, employees at the center tell TLS.

The thief – who began filling out a sheet, apparently to distract the employees – then placed his bag on the counter and swiped a Pushkah sitting on the counter, placing it between his bag and his chest. When he began receiving stares due to his suspicious actions, he told employees, “what are you looking at – get back to work,” an employee says.

The thief then walked out the door.

arrest pushka thiefRealizing he stole the Pushkah, several other employees – at least two of them who are volunteers for LCSW as well – immediately followed the suspect and kept an eye on him while calling police.

Police and LCSW members caught up with him about two blocks later. After positively identifying the suspect, police checked his bag and found him to be in possession of the Pushkah, and the money from it. The $33.67 was received, and the suspect was placed under arrest for theft.

Several other Lakewood businesses also had their Pushkas stolen over the past week, including the South Side Sandwich Shop, and the Exxon, TLS was told.

Additionally, LCSW tells TLS they have been monitoring this suspicious individual for several weeks, after receiving several calls about him. [TLS]

  1. Kudos to the brave employees and to the responsive police officers – Let us NOT ACCEPT LIVING in a world where ROBBING is just a little nuisance. My mailperson told me that if people had no jobs and no money they could be understood for stealing mail delivery boxes. I was shocked – where are the morals of just stealing and accepting stealing?

  2. When people are hungry, they’re gonna steal. Some steal from the governmen, others steal from pushka, and a few brazenly steal from houses. Nobody makes rational decisions wen they’re hungry.

  3. I’m sorry, but sometimes a reason is NOT an excuse! Too many liberals and bleeding hearts try explaining away events and wrongdoings on a global as well as local level. Stealing is wrong, period. If you are a psychiatrist, then yes, you can understandably explain and analyze. However, no society is accepting of theft, and you should not hold yourself above us all and declare that YOU understand the reasons behind the theft, so we should all just accept it. We all have hard times in our lives, some more than others. Some due to an unfortunate string of circumstances, others due to poor choices. Regardless, certain things the world over are accepted on face value as being wrong and punishable. Theft is one of them. In hard times one may choose to persevere or steal. This person chose the easy way out. Don’t excuse him, let us instead learn from his mistake and his actions.
