Man Arrested after Attempting to Lure Children with Candy

A man was arrested yesterday afternoon after attempting to lure children to his car with candy, sources tell TLS. Children hanging out near the Shul in the area of Central Avenue and St. Nicholas during Davening were allegedly told by a driver they would get candy if they’d come into his vehicle.

The children ran off, and a Hatzolah member in the Shul was notified of the incident.

The Hatzolah member immediately notified the Hatzolah Shabbos unit over the radio and instructed him to phone police, while providing him with a description of the vehicle and a plate number the children had managed to get.

A short time later, another Hatzolah member walking to lunch thought he’d recognized the car on Flintlock Drive, and confirmed the plate to indeed match the one given over the radio.

Police arrived to the location moments later and arrested the man.

A witness described the suspect as an approximately 50 year old black male. [TLS]

  1. It’s so sad that this seems to be the new “trend” these days but kol hakovod to the people who took action and contacted a hatzoloh member to call the police and especially for looking out for the plate number to make it easier for the police… bh this man was taken off the streets.

  4. Every school should have assemblies and rebbies and teachers should drill over and over that if חס וחלילה they are approached they should run to safety.
