PHOTOS & VIDEO: In response to Hurricane Sandy, the State’s EMS Task Force set up a Mobile Satellite Emergency Department (MSED) at Ocean Medical Center in Brick Township, to assist with the influx of patients coming in from the various area Hospitals around the Shore.
Shortly after it opened, Task Force Liaison to Department of Health Mike Tallin and the Hospital’s Public Relation Director Donna Sellmann, gave TLS a tour of the multi-million dollar facility set up in the Hospital’s adjoining parking lots. (See video).
The mobile facilites included a full Triage Center and medical trailers which offered EKGs, X-rays, OBG and other services reuqiring sophistatcted machinery. A full trailer of medication enough to last about 72 hours, was stocked nearby.
During the first 24 hours, the mobile hospital saw about 40 patients injured in Hurricane Sandy, and dozens since.
Tamar Traube, a Jewish Medic Nurse and Emergency Nurse from Lakewood working at Ocean Medical Center, served as a volunteer alongside hundreds of medical professionals staffed at the mobile hospital throughout the storm. TLS.

One Question: Was this opened today? If so, why was it not setup last week already so that they can be of assistence immediately after the storm?

it is important to Know that this was opened on wednesday, a day after the Hurricane struck our region and has ben operating for 24 hours a day.. There is a lot of information not in this in this story that should be told. This equiptment is part of the NJ state EMS Task force, in which Lakewood EMS is part of and actally had a big role in the set up and operation of this entire program. I know the people involved in this from our EMS and I can clearly state that we should be proud of the respopnse to our community and the entire Ocean COunty residence. Not everyone can do the job that this team from our own EMS did along with dealing with multiple ambulances in other parts of the county and still answering calls in LAkewod.
Maybe, or I hope of senior leaders in town take note of what they actually did for thousands. I am telling you this because that department will not.

It was nice to see so many people come together to help others. Many of those people have not been home for close to a week and are going through the same situtions as other people – including losing a home, electricity etc.
