PHOTOS & VIDEO: MBD Gives Hundreds A First Hand Account Of Devastation In Sea Gate; Donate Online

VIDEO & PHOTOS: Hundreds packed into the home of R’ Shimmy Gross Thursday evening to hear a first-hand account of the Sea Gate community’s devastation as a result of Hurricane Sandy’s fury.

Sea Gate resident Mordechai Ben David, (MBD), described the events from the last two weeks, how it has devastated the approximately 300 families living in the close-knit and once-serene community, and how they are beginning to face reality and attempt to rebuild their homes and community once again.

MBD then introduced Harav Meisels, Rav of Sea Gate, as well as Sea Gate resident Reb Yosef Burech Wolhendler, who also spoke about the devastation and rebuilding process.

Reb Wolhendler noted that he never understood or felt the true meaning of ‘Mi Ke’amcha Yisroel’, until the aftermath of the horrific events, and witnessed first-hand the outpouring of support from Yidden around the tri-state area.

The guest and final speaker (in Yiddish) was Harav Shimon Meisels, a son-in-law of the Satmar Rebbe Reb Aharon, who delivered an eloquent and powerful synopsis of the horrific situation.

A video of Sea Gate’s devastation was also showed at the event. (See below).

A lavish hot buffet, Sushi and more was catered by Yussis Sushi,  which the crowd enjoyed while listening to a Kumzitz given by Guitarists Hudi Greenberger and Chaim Weintraub.
