Assemblywoman Amy H. Handlin called on Comcast to join other cable television companies that are automatically crediting customers for the time they were without power because of Hurricane Sandy.
Most companies have offered to provide rebates if requested by customers individually. At least one, Time Warner Cable, has pledged to credit customers’ bills automatically.
“Cable companies should provide rebates to customers who lost service for several days – no questions asked,” Handlin, R-Monmouth, said. “Providing an automatic rebate would mean one less phone call for people who are already burdened with restoring their lives and homes after one of the worst storms in our state’s history.”
Handlin sent a letter to Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian L. Roberts requesting his company proactively provide credits.
“I’m pleased many cable providers such as Comcast have offered to rebate customers for services they could not possibly have used. However, the extraordinary storm we encountered justifies an extraordinary gesture,” Handlin said. “This is an opportunity for cable providers to show they are good corporate neighbors who care about their customers by providing credits without waiting to be asked.” TLS.
I’m not gonna hold my breath. The one thing all these companies do do well, is send you bills.
Cablevision told us (without our asking) that they would adjust our bill for the time we were out.
Shouldn’t the schools give rebates for the days that they cancelled school? What’s the difference?
And while we’re at it, shouldn’t the car company give credit for the days I couldn’t drive my leased car? Shouldn’t the insurance company give credit for the days I couldn’t drive my car?
Shouldn’t the township give credit on my property taxes for the day they didn’t pick up the garbage? Or didn’t have working street lights?
Should my landlord credit me for the days I couldn’t sleep in the apartment because there was no power?
Maybe the Honorable Assemblywoman should credit us (the taxpayers of NJ) part of her salary, for the days she didn’t show up to work due to the hurricane?
Hmmmm.
Why only pick on Cablevision? Unless, of course, its just another gimmick to score points with her gullible naive constituents.
What has America come to?
