AERIAL PHOTOS: After flying over the devastated Jersey Shore Thursday – weeks after Hurricane Sandy hit, all the TLS photographer could says was, “Unbelievable.”Destroyed homes, wrecked boats and even homes floating in the water, were the sights our photographer flying with a Piper over the Shore witnessed of the once-beautiful Jersey Shore.
It’s more than three weeks since the super-storm devastated Mantoloking, Seaside Heights and Point Pleasant, but the recovery is still many months away.
Pictured above, is not an island. It’s a home torn from its property and floated several hundred feet away into the Ocean.
Also in the album, is the now historic Roller Coaster of a Seaside Heights amusement park, which could be left submerged in the Ocean waters as a tourist attraction. TLS-CCP.
Another “brilliant” idea hatched by the Mayor of Seaside. Let’s leave the rusting steel roller coaster in the water to draw more sleezy tourism to the town. Nevermind the feelings of yearlong residents whose hearts break at the sight of the crippled metal skeleton. It only serves as a reminder of the great loss our shore families have suffered throughout this disaster. This proposal by Seaside’s mayor would also put many beachgoers at risk. Who wants to go swimming with pieces of rusty metal that have broken off in the surf? I’d rather not have to run the risk of having to get a tetnus shot when surfing. Not to mention what a danger it would pose to kids who want to swim out to climb on the rusty structure. Sure they could say it’s off limits but when has that ever stopped kids before?
I say take that eyesore out of the water and let our shore communities heal. Make your money off of tourism in a positive way, not one that will only attract gawkers to our misfortune.
i wonder how many are already planning on swimming near the submerged coaster, and getting washed out and hitting themselves against the coaster, and then suing the brilliant mayor. 🙂 Cha-Ching!
Who paid for the gas of the helicopter ride??
let the mayor stand on top with a torch
I agree. A totally foolish idea.
