Tomchei Tzedakah: Meshulach Accosted Last Night Was Not Subject Of The Alert

Yesterday, Tomchei Tzedakah issued an alert about an individual that was engaging in inappropriate behavior. Last night, a meshulach was accosted and accused of being the subject of the alert, Tomchei Tzedakah says.

“This meshulach did not fit the description, had an ishur from Tomchei Tzedakah and had done nothing to indicate that he was unethical.”

He was reportedly accosted by an individual, a group and then by the police.

“This was a terrible Avlah”, Tomchei Tzedakah says. “This meshulach is an ehrliche yungerman that has endured many tzoros and is a true nitzrach.”

“Tomchei Tzedakah’s mission is to help meshulachim, and that should be the mission of all of us in Lakewood. The inappropriate actions of one individual does not give anyone the right to demean any meshulach!”

Tomchei Tzedakah adds, “Even if you think you see the suspected meshulach, please do not take matters into your own hands. You may be mistaken, as people were last night. Please call Shomrim at 732-367-1212. They are experienced in such matters and will handle it professionally.” TLS.

  1. i dont understand this whole thing. why post warnings about meshulachim with ‘gray beard and glasses’.either identify him clearly, or dont post, for such posts cause such incidents?

  2. A similar thing happened to an extremely choshiv bucher a few years ago. It litterly ruined his life. You can’t just point fingers- there must be a proper and thorough investigation before anything.

  3. While I agree that giving more details would be beneficial, that’s not an excuse to take matters in your own hands. I’m sure the point of the alert was to have people keep a lookout and inform the proper people, not to beat the guy who you think it is.

  4. Just wanted to correct myself. This posting does not say anyone was beaten, just accosted. My apologies. Either way, though, the lack of details in the alert should not “cause such incidents”.

  5. #4 and #5: Although you are correct about the point of the article, they still should have taken into account the people that don’t have brains like me or you. Unfortunately this is one of the problems of the internet. People feel they can take things into their own hands without thinking things thru and knowing all the facts. Not everyone has common sense. They should have either been more specific, or dont issue such a vague alert which is open to interpretation.

  6. Why should a person call Shomrim if they are running after the wrong people and harassing them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even the police are more considerate the way they deal with this!!!!!!!!

  7. “It may be a good idea to actually publish the details of the individual in question so as not to have this happen.”

Please don’t make it sound like it is the fault of the scoop that this thing happened. Because I don’t want to think that you are being stupid.
